Customer Service Customer Engagement Technology Team (CET) is looking for a passionate, innovative, and motivated Data Engineering Manager to join our Self-Service and Automation (SSA) team where we you will manage a team responsible for designing and building our data storage solutions for Large Language Models (LLMs). Our team owns deploying LLMs.

The mission of the CET team within Customer Service is to create earth’s best customer service solutions through empowering our customers to utilize LLM powered automation to resolve their issues quickly and efficiently. You will be a key component of our leadership team and will influence our science and engineering roadmaps.

If you are passionate about data, code and Generative AI and excited to working with massive volumes of LLM data then this is the role for you! Within CS you will build data engineering solutions that process billions of interactions with Amazons Generative AI solutions and generates insights from those interactions. You will partner with our tech and science team to build a next-generation data storage and observability product for LLMs that will allow our science team to train our models and improve the customer experience.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Data Engineering Manager who is looking for the next challenge to elevate their career. They relish working with large volumes of data, enjoys the challenge of highly complex technical contexts, and, above all else, is passionate about data and analytics. He/she is an expert with data modeling with unstructured data, ingestion pipelines and ETL design and business intelligence tools with the business to identify strategic opportunities where improvements in data infrastructure creates out-sized business impact. He/she is a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big (while paying careful attention to detail), managing other engineers in team on high quality tech and enjoys working in a fast-paced team. Key job responsibilities

• Own the problem space: Working backwards from the customer experience and through deep data analysis, you will identify short- and long-term opportunities for improving data quality and design data solutions around it. You will lead your team in building a system that provides business insights at millions of intersections of data and identifying new opportunities to improve our security posture.

• Design a system that can handle data at massive scale: You will lead a team to build solutions that scale for billions of records with strict demands of availability, latency and maintainability.

• Be the driver of new technology and Ideas: Our solutions are built on AWS technologies such as Redshift, Glue, Lambda, ECS etc. and open-source software such as Spark, Airflow, etc. In addition to leveraging these fully, you will look for new technologies and continually push the team towards novel and simpler ways to build solutions.

• Be the ultimate problem solver: You will take the most vexing problems head on and stretch the boundaries of what is doable.

• influence the teams’ data strategy and data storage roadmap through working closely with business stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of processing data with a massively parallel technology (such as Redshift, Teradata, Netezza, Spark or Hadoop based big data solution) experience

  • 5+ years of relational database technology (such as Redshift, Oracle, MySQL or MS SQL) experience

  • 5+ years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics (using ETL/ELT processes) experience

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience managing a data or BI team

  • Experience communicating to senior management and customers verbally and in writing

  • Experience leading and influencing the data or BI strategy of your team or organization

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR

  • Experience with AWS Tools and Technologies (Redshift, S3, EC2)

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT or equivalent

  • 7+ years of processing data with a massively parallel technology (such as Redshift, Teradata, Netezza, Spark or Hadoop based big data solution) experience

  • 7+ years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics (using ETL/ELT processes) experience

  • Knowledge of Data modelling, advanced SQL with Oracle, MySQL, and Columnar Databases at an advanced level

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $264,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
