The Commercial function in Diageo Korea is a passionate and results focused team of 70+ people who are sit at the forefront of building market leading customer partnerships and executing our go to market strategies across the omni- channels which is not limited to the Off Trade (Hyper, Convenience, Supermarket, Club), On Trade (Bar, Club, MOT, Pub/Hof & Restaurants), Luxury (High-end specialty retail and department stores & Trend-leading Restaurants, Lounge Clubs & Bars), but may be extended to the Wholesale and eCommerce channels across nation-wide.

About the Role

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is a key part of our On Trade sales team responsible for effectively managing existing customers and developing new customer accounts through strategic partners with wholesales in order to grow Diageo’s business, presence and drive high-quality long lasting joint partnerships with our On Trade and wholesale customers and consumers.

The role is responsible for a designated geography in Seoul/Provinces across Malt Bars, Nightclubs, Lounge bars, Stylish Restaurants, Pubs, casual restaurants along with wholesaler; where they are accountable for executing the sell-out objectives, sales driver activations and Diageo brand building objectives across the full Spirits and Beer portfolio.

The purpose of the role is to deeply understand our customers’ businesses and the consumers’ needs, and execute key sales drivers to meet these needs that will jointly grow both Diageo and our customers’ businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Developing the new and enhancing the existing commercial relationship with deep level of market understanding across your designated geography (territory) to understand customers’ strategies and plans, to facilitate collaborative working, resolve any areas of potential conflict and maximize joint sales opportunities

  • Building strong partnerships with wholesale customers to maximize value creation and ensure they receive excellent customer service, contributing significantly to maintaining smooth Diageo products flow through the commercial value chain

  • Owning the day-to-day Business Unit’s sales delivery by calling upon customers/venues either physically or virtually, employing effective rapport building, influencing, selling, negotiation, persuasion, and conflict management/resolution skills.

  • Develop industry expertise gaining market insight about entire market especially for consumer & customer and competitive advantage insight, and share this knowledge across your team and peers to build collective expertise in On Trade

  • Leading new initiatives and projects within the wholesale channel to strategically seize every single opportunity based on company cycle plan.

  • Drive maximum return on investment for Diageo by having entrepreneurship to apply customer/consumer insights to target sales driver activity sell in and execution success, create robust joint customer plans for his/her Business Unit, and execute these fully and flawlessly.

  • Identifying opportunities, selling, negotiating and driving compliant execution on distribution (MPA +), activation (MAS+) and time bound commercial and brands opportunities in your Business Unit to achieve required KPIs linked to delivering the On Trade Strategy

  • Present compelling customer propositions to meet customer and Diageo needs, and deliver customer proposals using negotiation skills and persuasive selling process

  • Daily compliant and consistent use of SFA tools, responsible for the team’s acquiring and maintaining of customer venue level data

  • Report implementation of all activity though appropriate processes; monitor compliance and resolves non-compliance issues with pace

  • Manage an agreed journey plan and call cycle to deliver requirements of the role

  • Develop capability of self by attending sales training modules as agreed with commercial function head, applying those skills in day to day to enable BD team performance

  • Proactively drive your direct(s) personal development by utilizing support and coaching tools

  • Always maintain highest levels of integrity and compliance standards, and your business activities are in line with company budgets, policies, procedures, health, safety and relevant legislation.

Experience required/Skills/Capabilities/Languages

  • Demonstrate deep personal accountability for performance and delivering sales targets/objectives

  • Sales experience and/or industry related experience within the on trade (Malt Bar, Stylish Restaurant, Pub segments), experience in selling and negotiation desired, exposure to structured sales approach valuable

  • Passion for and capable in building strong external and internal relationships essential.

  • Able to understand P & L calculations & basic business finance

  • Excellent communicator; demonstrated via face-to-face, telephone and written communication

  • Proven organisational and prioritisation skills; Able to balance a number of objectives, work in fast paced environment, and adopt to change quickly

  • Proactive and entrepreneurial mindset to flex the needs of the role as the new business unit develops

  • Capable numerical and analytical skills and ability to draw insights into action; strong technology and digital literacy i.e. MS Office; able to manage a database to basic level, Internet, email, collaboration tools (zoom, teams)

  • Business related degree preferred (Commerce / Finance / Marketing)

  • Flexibility to call on and engage with customers in their venues in their operating hours (i.e. after 7pm) as required
