We’re looking for a usability designer for our magnetic resonance business in China (Suzhou/Shanghai) to strengthen our local Experience Design team.

You are responsible for

The usability designer ensures that products we develop in Philips are safe, effective, efficient, intuitive, and satisfactory to use. He/she is responsible for raising awareness to usability & user-centered design, and advocates for user needs and patient safety in the business and the project team.

The usability designer defines the usability strategy for the project and leads the usability activities in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, which includes UI/UX designers, product designers, clinical specialists, product managers, researchers, developers, and system engineers.

Those activities include:

  • Conduct user research, task analysis and create use scenarios.

  • Analyze post-market data and identify usability issues.

  • incoming NMPA, especially usability located in China?

  • Lead usability FMEA.

  • Support the development of user-centered and safe-to-use UI and UX solutions.

  • Plan, execute and report usability evaluations and ensure critical findings are fixed.

  • For medical devices projects : conduct summative evaluation and create the usability engineering file, in compliance with the FDA, NMPA guidance and IEC62366-1.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need a customer-first attitude and the following

Proven experience and knowledge:

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience of usability engineering of complex systems, medical devices preferred, from early phases of gathering user needs to late phases of product validation and post market follow-up. Including: conducting task analysis, providing inputs to UI/UX designers, risk managers and engineers, performing and reporting usability evaluations.

  • Good knowledge and understanding of regulation requirements for usability of medical devices: NMPA, FDA guidance and IEC62366-1.

  • Good understanding of quality systems (QMS) and risk management principles.

  • Good knowledge and understanding of cognitive ergonomics principles.

  • Good understanding of the healthcare domain and clinical workflow e.g. in hospitals.

  • Preferred: experience in working effectively in multidisciplinary teams and in a complex global company.

  • Preferred : Good knowledge and understanding of physical ergonomics principles.

Academic background:

  • Master’s in human factors engineering, HCI, cognitive science, product/interaction design or other relevant academic background.

Skills:

  • Highly independent and pro-active.

  • Good communication, presentation, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to “speak up” and effectively advocate for user needs and user experience.

  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals and stakeholders, from around the globe.

  • Ability to write high quality formal documentation.

  • Excellent English, written and verbal.
