UPMC Somerset is looking for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to join the Acute Care units! UPMC Somerset's Acute Care is made up of the Cardiology Medicine Unit & Surgical Acute Care unit. These positions work rotating shifts including holidays and weekends. The Acute Care departments are truly a team! Employees are cross trained to function on both units and will float as needed.

  • Graduate Nurses can be awarded up to $10,000 with a 2-year work commitment

  • Experienced Nurses (1+ years of experience) can be awarded up to $12,500 with a 2-year work commitment

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritizes patient problems through critical thinking, distinguishing significant from non-significant deviations from normal and urgent from non-urgent needs.

  • Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining individualized patient care plans.

  • Administers medications and performs treatments/procedures following the five rights of medication administration and medical plan protocols.

  • Initiates and manages peripheral IV administration and maintenance fluid administration within state regulations and hospital standards.

  • Conducts patient and family education under RN supervision.

  • Applies standards of care effectively to ensure efficient patient care delivery.

  • Maintains competency in routine nursing procedures.

  • Cultivates a positive work environment by fostering constructive communication and relationships.

  • Engages in formal and informal staff development activities within and outside the nursing unit.

  • Identifies opportunities to enhance workflow efficiency and reduce care costs.

  • Completion of a Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.

  • Basic Arrhythmia Course upon hire or within 6 months required

  • One year general medical/surgical (acute care) experience in an acute care setting preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Successful completion of an approved pharmacology course prior to hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire or completed within one month of hire

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification

  • Act 34
