Cabela's Sales Tax Accounting Specialist in Springfield, United States


The position will primarily be responsible for the preparation and filing of sales, use, and other related tax returns for various locations throughout the United States and Canada. Additional responsibilities include reconciling general ledger accounts, researching tax issues in order to answer tax related questions, assisting with tax audits, and handling general accounting inquiries.


  • Prepare and file sales, use, and other related tax returns for various locations throughout the United States and Canada. This includes gathering information, reconciling accounts, preparing tax returns, filing and paying all balances due, and resolving any notices received from government agencies. (75%)

  • Act as the primary contact for assigned locations. This includes researching and responding to questions regarding tax regulations for various jurisdictions and internal tax procedures. (20%)

  • Assist the Sales Tax Manager with external audits by gathering information requested and explaining tax return preparation procedures to auditors as needed. (5%)



Minimum Degree Required : High School Diploma

Preferred Degree : Associates Degree in Accounting


  • Strong computer skills are required. This includes strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Excellent organization skills are required. This position is very deadline driven and requires a significant amount of multi-tasking and coordination with other members of the organization in order to ensure all returns are filed timely and accurately.

  • Excellent communication skills are required. This position requires that you communicate effectively, including providing good customer service to other members of the organization and any external contacts.

  • Good analytical skills are required. This includes the ability to reconcile accounts and perform research in order to resolve issues as they arise.

  • Previous accounting experience is strongly preferred, especially tax accounting.

  • Working knowledge of systems such as Vertex, IDS, and/or Infinium is a plus.
