What You'll Be Doing

Job Summary: Generally responsible for performing complete design of assignments using practical knowledge and design methods in the implementation of IT systems, servers and networks. Work at this level requires progressive experience in network configuration, application installation, and/or system design and involves utilization of project controls for cost, schedule, and quality of projects. This work will be performed under general supervision.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the company’s efforts to maintain CSIA Certification.

  • Familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.

  • Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.

  • Providing on-site assistance during startup.

  • Providing on-call coverage to clients as required.

  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel in the department.

  • Coordinating work activities with teammates and the discipline lead.

  • Producing IT system specifications with engineering review and approval.

  • Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform design functions.

  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines in proportion to their technical skills and experience with follow up support to ensure efficient progress and quality.

  • Performing fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support

Ideal Background

Education: Associate of Science degree in Electronics Technology, Information Technology, or related field is highly preferred.

Certification: Microsoft, VMware, CompTIA, and/or Cisco Certification is preferred.

Experience: This position requires 10 or more years of relevant industrial experience in information technology or controls and automation.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to understand and implement the current version of 802.3at ethernet standards.

  • Ability to understand and implement the current version of 802.11ac WiFi standards.

  • Ability to understand and implement the current version of ISA99 cybersecurity standards.

  • Ability to understand and implement the current version of OSHA 1910.119 Management of Change.

  • Experience with two or more of the following systems OR extensive knowledge of at least one of the following systems: Operating Systems - Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows XP, Linux; OEMs - Dell, HP, IBM, Siemens, Cisco, Rockwell Automation; Virtualization - VMware ESXi, Microsoft HyperV; Networks - Layer 2, Layer 3

  • Ability to create accurate IT system installation documents from the information found in vendor manuals.

  • Ability to read and interpret DFD’s, system architecture, and network architecture drawings.

  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols, media (twisted pair, coaxial, fiber optic, wireless, etc.), and equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot software problems in the field.

  • Ability to troubleshoot networking problems in the field using common isolation techniques.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.

  • Ability to develop IT system installation specifications with engineering review and approval.

  • Developing design criteria and scope of work.

  • Forecasting hours to complete professional services.

  • Excellent virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with creating, using, and deploying Virtual Machines.

  • Experience with Network Security.

  • Knowledge of Ethernet and LAN/WAN systems such as Cisco switches and routers.

  • Basic understanding of CAD software, either AutoCAD or Microstation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
