Intermountain Health Clinical Lab Assistant Student in St George, Utah

Job Description:

The Lab Assistant Student learns the performance of laboratory organization and patient care by ordering, preparing and directing specimens to appropriate lab / testing, and providing appropriate customer service.

Posting Specifics:

  • Entry Rate: $16.24/hour. Once the 12-week training program is complete, students would be eligible to be placed into a permanent Lab Assistant role and receive an increase to $17.76/hour.

  • Shift Details: Full-time, 40 hours/week

  • Department: Laboratory General, St. George Regional Hospital

St. George Regional Hospital is a 294-bed hospital and is the major medical referral center for northwestern Arizona, southeastern Nevada, and southern Utah. We are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and serve as a Level II Trauma center, caring for almost all trauma patients (with the exception of major pediatric trauma).

Job Essentials:

  • Learns receiving, ordering, processing, labeling and auditing of specimens according to established procedure, recognizes factors that may affect testing outcomes, takes appropriate action to solve problems, and consistently documents solutions according to established protocols.

  • Learns and maintains appropriate knowledge of all computer systems and test ordering practices insuring all specimens are properly entered in all computer systems.

  • Learns how to effectively communicate specimen collection and handling requirements, providing service to external and internal customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment under stressful situations

  • Demonstrated self-motivation skills and able to work independently

  • Demonstrated basic computer skills

  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, and nights

Physical Requirements:

Interact with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information.
