BUNZL Payroll Tax Coordinator in St. Louis, Missouri

Description

The Payroll Tax Coordinator is a valuable member of the payroll team. This role will be responsible for all payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and filing local, state, and federal payroll tax returns. The incumbent should be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent communication skills and high attention to detail.

This role is remote based in St. Louis, Missouri. Candidates must have the ability to work in the office for training and collaboration days.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all payroll tax activities pertaining to the filing of federal, state, and local payroll tax returns and payments.

  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations as well as the company’s record retention policy.

  • Assist the Senior Director of HRIS & Payroll with:

  • Registration application process for State and Local Taxes

  • Managing Unemployment Tax ID’s

  • Resolving tax issues with third-party payment service provider

  • Maintaining records, reconciling quarterly and annual returns, processing year-end W-2s, W2C’s, and processing any adjustments related to payroll tax discrepancies.

  • Assisting and providing data to support corporate tax processes, budget projection and special reports for senior management.

  • Preparation of fiscal year end reporting and planning to ensure a smooth yearend.

  • Complete a tax filing reconciliation on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis including validation, submission/approval and any amended returns as applicable.

  • Research and resolve in a timely manner:

  • Tax reconciliation errors.

  • Tax credit/debit concerns from the Finance department.

  • Tax notices from State/Local Agencies

  • Ensure accurate and timely resolution of inquiries from internal and external sources. Work with third-party vendors as applicable to ensure effective resolution.

  • Act as a liaison with Finance to reconcile banking on a monthly basis.

  • Maintain and monitor state unemployment rates and wage base limits in HRIS system.

  • Act as the primary contact for payroll tax related correspondence and inquiries as well as escalated employee payroll tax issues.

  • Annually review all earnings and deductions setup with payroll and benefits managers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Attention to detail and conscientious with a high level of accuracy is a must to prevent company exposure to tax penalties/assessments, and to ensure a high degree of compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax regulations.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with a high regard for professionalism.

  • Advanced Excel skills a must.

  • 2+ years Tax, Payroll and/or Accounting experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of payroll tax and general payroll principles.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.

  • Multi-state payroll tax experience.

  • Experience with UKG/Ultipro and Ceridian tax services.
