Job Description Park Nicollet Health Services Job Title: Anesthesia Technician Job Code: 822-080 Leader Title Level: Supervisor Location: MH, PNASC Department: Anesthesia Final Approval (Dir. or VP Level): Director Date Approved: 08/07/2002 Date Revised: 02/16/2024 POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Anesthesia Technician maintains the cleanliness of the anesthesia environment and assures that anesthesia supplies and equipment are ready for use, thus assisting with the smooth efficient operation of the daily schedule. The Anesthesia Technician also assists with the placement of invasive monitoring lines and epidural blocks. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (30%) - Assures all anesthesia equipment is ready for use and anesthesia environment is clean. Keeps all the equipment clean and keeps all the parts that are necessary to operate the equipment together. Restocks all supplies and equipment in the anesthesia workroom. Restocks all supplies on anesthesia carts. Keeps workroom cupboards, counters, drawers, and refrigerator clean and orderly. Does major cleaning of the gas machines as scheduled. Checks all emergency anesthesia supplies and equipment that are stocked outside of the department. (30%) - Provides fast paced anesthesia room turnover to facilitate the OR schedule. Performs gas machine circuit leak tests between each case. Restocks as needed between cases. (20%) - Prepares the anesthesia supplies and equipment for the next day's schedule and assures a clean environment. Assures anesthesia carts and gas machines are replenished and cleaned. Assures all cupboards are restocked and dusted. Assures each operating room has the appropriate accessory equipment: blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, infusion bags, circuits, IV stands, ether screen, nerve stimulators, phone number lists, etc. (15%) - Assists with placement of invasive lines and epidural blocks. Assembles all the supplies and equipment and prepares all monitoring lines for insertion using sterile technique. Prepares invasive line set-up, NS, flushes all tubing, assuring all lines are without air. Fills a 10cc syringe with the NS, labels and dates the syringe. Removes the last stopcock and last 12 inches of the plastic tubing, maintaining sterile technique, and attaches to syringe (takes to POHR). Prepares the OR monitors and obtains transducer. Calibrates the transducers and assures their functioning. Prepares the equipment and supplies in POHR or the OR for the appropriate line insertions. Assists the anesthesiologist with the line insertions and, if applicable, with the insertion of epidural catheter. Assists with the lines during transport. (5%) - Stands by during emergencies to deliver stat labs and blood products to and from the OR.
