DIRECTOR OF FAMILY SERVICES

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Director of Family Services to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Director of Family Services for our City Sanctuary Facility for Families w/ Children in Staten Island, NY. As the Director of Family Services, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, overseeing the performance of our dedicated Case Manager Supervisor and Case Managers in ensuring a collaborative and supportive environment, where our team can excel and provide the best support to our families. The Director of Family Services will be responsible for meeting standards implemented by the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and aligning with HFH’s core mission. The Director of Family Services will report directly to the facility Administrator. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in shelter as well as those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, afterschool clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise Family Services staff to ensure all procedures and protocol are followed.

  • Train, and monitor the effectiveness of staff.

  • Conduct case conferences among FS staff and non-compliant clients on a weekly basis.

  • Assist case management staff in motivating clients to follow through on developed independent living plans, connect to public benefits, and work to exit to permanent housing.

  • Collaborate with childcare, adult, and children’s education departments’ staff to maximize client participation and opportunities.

  • Ensure that Housing Workshops are conducted and that the Housing Specialist(s) are developing exit strategies with clients and referring clients to available apartments.

  • Review and sign-off on case records to ensure compliance with OTDA and DHS guidelines.

  • Assist in the adaptation or development of materials to meet the informational needs of clients.

  • Ensure that staff refer clients to appropriate agencies including employment, substance abuse and childcare programs in order to meet full complement of client needs.

  • Maintain established relationships with community agencies and schools.

  • Identify and address problems with personnel and perform disciplinary actions in conjunction with facility administration and central office.

  • Provide reports to agency administrators and central office as required.

  • Hold weekly meetings among Case Managers and Housing Specialists to ensure communication and to address issues.

  • Input monthly supervisory notes.

  • Maintain critical files.

  • Conduct monthly case audits.

  • Organize staff development workshops for Case Managers and Housing Specialists.

  • Meet with Administrators regularly to discuss family obstacles.

  • Oversee a team of Social Workers and their work

  • Build and maintain relationship with DHS

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in related field

  • Has Shelter supervisory experience

  • Knowledge of DHS and OTDA

  • Can perform case audits in line with DHS regulations

  • Experience and/or familiarity with legal services provision for immigrants and/or asylum seekers strongly preferred

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds preferred.

  • Must have at least one year of supervisory experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Fluency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish strongly preferred.

    SALARY:

    $75,000-$80,000
