Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is looking for a Database Analyst / Principal Database Analyst. The Database Analyst provides the primary capability for the conceptualization and development of databases for military models and simulations (M&S) used in computer-assisted joint and combined exercises and rehearsals. As a member of the Joint Staff J7 team, the selected candidate will serve as the database team lead and liaison for exercise database production; coordinating database requirements; and deliveries of database products to military and government civilian personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for; and participates in the design; planning; development; implementation; maintenance of; and administration of databases. The Senior Analyst will compile; synchronize; test; and participate in continuous improvements to military models to enhance performance; provide for increased functionality; and support version and release certification.

  • Identifies; develops; and maintains parametric data for simulation databases. Maintains and reconciles entity class lists for simulation federation partners; and verifies and validates the integrity of systems and objects in Exercise Datasets (EDS).

  • Conducts research of military units; organization; equipment; and Tactics; Techniques; and Procedures (TTP) using classified and unclassified sources. Translates real and fictional friendly and enemy force structures and associated objects into simulation databases.

  • Analyzes and determines information needs and elements; data relationships and attributes; data flow and storage requirements; data output and reporting capabilities; and exercise database performance.

  • Organizes and directs planning sessions and conferences.

  • Prepares and presents point papers and briefings. Conducts instructional training for users of database development tools.

Basic Qualifications:

Database Analyst:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college in Information Systems Management, Computer Systems Analysis, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics or related field and two years of experience. 4 years of additional experience in lieu of degree will be considered.

  • Joint staff experience and knowledge on military systems; equipment; and tactics; techniques; and procedures (TTP); and familiarization with joint doctrine and Joint Operation Planning and Execution System (JOPES) is desirable.

  • Knowledge and use of SQL DEVELOPER with relational databases; and ORACLE Procedural Language/Structured Query Language (PL/SQL) on a LINUX operating system; developing relational scenario databases.

  • Knowledge and use of Vi; Vim; and/or GEDIT editor programs in a UNIX/LINIX environment.

Principal Database Analyst:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college in Information Systems Management, Computer Systems Analysis, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics or related field and six years of experience. 4 years of additional experience in lieu of degree will be considered.

  • Joint staff experience and knowledge on military systems; equipment; and tactics; techniques; and procedures (TTP); and familiarization with joint doctrine and Joint Operation Planning and Execution System (JOPES) is desirable.

  • Knowledge and use of SQL DEVELOPER with relational databases; and ORACLE Procedural Language/Structured Query Language (PL/SQL) on a LINUX operating system; developing relational scenario databases.

  • Knowledge and use of Vi; Vim; and/or GEDIT editor programs in a UNIX/LINIX environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Write and read SimScript code to locate errors in scenario databases or in program code is desirable.

  • Direct experience working with; and knowledge in one or more of the following models and their parametric databases is highly desirable but not required: Air Force Synthetic Environment for Reconnaissance and Surveillance/Multiple Unified Simulation Environment (AFSERS/MUSE); Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation (JCATS); JCATS Low Overhead Driver (JLOD); Joint Deployment Logistics Model (JDLM); Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS); or other models/federation of models; and real world systems such as the Global Command and Control System (GCCS) and Theater Battle Management Core System (TBMCS).

  • Use of the Microsoft Suite of programs (MS Word; Excel; Access; and Power Point) and Open Office Org 3 suite of tools; with special attention to knowledge and use of database development tools.

Salary Range: $72,100 - $108,100

Salary Range 2: $88,600 - $133,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
