LinkedIn is looking for a Distinguished Engineer with expertise in platforms and infrastructure to provide thought leadership for Data Infra organization. Data Infra builds scalable, highly available, secure, easy to use and cost-efficient infrastructure that powers LinkedIn’s applications and infra systems. It covers a portfolio of products and services that allow applications to store, access/query, process and manage data. Our roadmap is bursting with great ideas and we are looking forward to having this distinguished Engineer help in solving intriguing technical challenges and building robust infrastructure that will help engineers to build cutting-edge experiences at scale

As a Distinguished Engineer at LinkedIn, you will lead technology vision and development for Data Infrastructure Org. You will have the opportunity to architect and lead the next generation of AI-first infrastructure that powers LI’s Business . From Data Processing pipelines to storage systems to Online data infra to driving business impact - you will get to experience all. The successful candidate will be a strong thought leader in the technology space, with the ability to build and execute at scale, inspiring and guiding a large team of engineers solving big problems.

As a key leader in the organization, you will be responsible for innovation, implementing tech strategy, staying ahead and influencing adoption of industry best practices in building and scaling state of the art Infrastructure

Responsibilities:

• Develop a strong understanding of LI’s Core Infrastructure and its trends and provide domain expertise to the team.

• Head cross team/cross functional discussions and drive alignment on product/technology strategy, influencing decisions

• Help define technical strategy& leverage business and domain acumen to interpret and translate business requirements to architecture/technology plans.

• Help build highly scalable systems and applications to enable the organization to achieve its goals.

• Actively improve the level of craftsmanship at LinkedIn by developing best practices and defining best strategies. Define the bar for quality and efficiency of software systems while balancing business impact, operational impact and cost benefits of design and architectural choices.

• Establish a culture that values diverse viewpoints while navigating complex decisions.

• Publish, present, and contribute as a thought leader in the field of Infrastructure

• Advise LinkedIn executives on a broad range of technology, strategy, Policies and best practices to build Infrastructure at scale

• You believe in building relationships at all levels and can seamlessly work in a cross-functional team set up with distributed ownership. You partner with teams across the globe to foster a culture of collaboration and can own and drive large scale initiatives.

• Identify problems, opportunities and advise, architect, design and operationalize Tech solutions.

• Be part of the TLG (Technology Leadership Group) contributing to the overall strategy & roadmap considerations

• Evangelize and inspire best practices across LI to transform them towards thinking AI-first Infrastructure

• Establish a culture that values diverse viewpoints while navigating complex decisions

• Lead by example to build a culture of craftsmanship and innovation.

• Provide mentorship to other senior engineering talent

• Assume hands-on leadership, especially when helping teams resolve complex problems

Basic Qualifications:

• PhD in a relevant field or related discipline (machine learning, statistics, computer science etc.), or equivalent research experience

• 10+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years' experience in building robust Platforms with at least 5 of those years in a technical or scientific leadership position

• Experience in designing and implementing platforms at scale to solve complex business problems

• Experience leading complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders

• Experience in leading large scale development projects from concept to multiple releases in production

• Experience of technical leadership guiding and mentoring top engineering and operations talent

• Experience leading high-impact, cross-company initiatives

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

The pay range for this role is $229,000 to $375,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
