Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communications Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 2 years of experience with software development in programming languages (e.g., C or C++), or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.

  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.

  • Experience with connectivity components (e.g., Wi-Fi/Bluetooth or embedded software).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: networking, embedded Linux, network security, wireless technologies, or data analysis.

  • Passion for IoT and smart home technologies.

In this role, you will innovate with software engineers, hardware designers, and experts to advance our smart home ecosystem for the new digital world. You will have many learning opportunities, industry-wide influence, and fun imagining new ways for machines to understand the world.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Nest team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

  • Design and develop the device software stack for next generation smart home router and mesh networking software. Work across the entire stack from kernel, driver, wireless, and wired connectivity technologies all the way to future connectivity services in user space.

  • Work cross-functionally with adjacent Google Nest products and Google Cloud/App teams.

  • Contribute to device software architecture to enable future Nest Wi-Fi product strategy.

  • Own the full software cycle from prototype, design, development, testing, integration, debugging to product launch, and collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Management, User Experience, Engineering Productivity, and Partner Engineering.

  • Write robust, performant, and maintainable code.
