  1. Job


Patent Service :

  • Offers outstanding customer service to patients, physicians and other hospital staff.

  • Knowledgeable and skillful in providing service, based on the physical, psycho/social, educational and safety needs, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.

  • Able to provide age specific service to neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.

  • Able to involve family/significant others in decision making related to plan of care for neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.


Collection and Distribution:



venipunctures or other procedures to collect the required specimen(s) from

the inpatients, outpatients, and outreach patients following all laboratory

policies and procedures for specimen collection.



blood and other specimens according to laboratory protocol.



courier with specimen pickup from outreach clients as necessary


Duties :



and verifies doctors' lab orders into LIS



on physician ordering practices following NYSDOH guidelines for test




prescriptions, faxes reports and responds to telephone requests.

  • Separates clinical reports for distribution to doctor boxes and/or postal mail

  • Assists with laboratory Storeroom inventory and stocking.

  1. Patient

and Staff Safety:

  • Recognizes the importance of patient/staff safety precautions as it relates to specific department and area of responsibility.

  • Consistently utilizes precautions and follows appropriate procedures to enhance patient/staff safety in daily operations.

  • Identifies and reports any potentially dangerous situations to manager which could cause medical error and / or patient or staff harm

  • Initiates 'Rapid Response' or other emergency code necessary to respond to patient distress resulting from phlebotomy.

  1. Performance


  • Participates in performance / customer service improvement; actively assists in improving performance based on results obtained from customer satisfaction / PI activities.

  • Where appropriate, participates in Performance Improvement activities, including team membership.

4 . Quality


  • Maintains personal professional competency through in-service and meeting attendance.

  • Maintains a safe, orderly working environment; maintains compliance with OSHA regulations.

  • Ensures that HIPAA regulations, Joint Commission standards and PMHC corporate compliance policies are adhered to.

  • Adheres to hospital and department mission statements, policies and procedures.


Continuing Education :

  • Attends all hospital or departmental in-services.

  • Completes annual HSEP and health assessment as required by Joint Commission.

  • Attends appropriate seminars and conferences as necessary.

6. Performs other

duties as assigned and requested.


  • Education/Training:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Certificate in Phlebotomy preferred

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English required.

  • Experience

  • One ( 1 ) year experience in phlebotomy.

  • Licensure, Registration or Certification:

  • Current valid (per hospital policy) US driver's license required.
