Purpose of the Job

The Senior Management Accountant provides financial controlling for the Precious and Base Metals Services (CC-EM) global business unit in Asia Pacific under the supervision of theFinance manager. The position provides financial reporting and management information in accordance with internal and external requirements and regulations and acts in compliance with BASF guidelines.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related discipline.

  • Hold Certificated Public Tax Accountant is advantage.

  • 3+ years of progressivetaxaccounting experience.

  • 3+ years of general accounting and reporting.

  • Experience in the Commodities Trading and/or metals Refining Industry considered a strong asset.

  • Knowledge of BASF financial policies, practices and procedures including the demonstrated ability to consistently and appropriately interpret, communicate and enforce.

  • Knowledge / understanding and applicability of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), particularly as they apply to Derivatives Accounting.

  • Knowledge of local accounting principles for Japan (GAAP).

  • Solid knowledge of Tax accounting theory and practice.

  • Previous working experience in SAP and intermediate/advance Excel skills.

  • Must be fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Principal Responsibilities

Tax Accounting

  • Prepare tax returns, fixed asset, VAT/consumption tax, corporate tax.

  • Prepare posting taxes and manage/reconcile the tax related GL accounts in SAP.

  • Manage and communicate tax-related inquiries from central BASF Tax and ECMS Tax team as well as internal commercial or operation teams.

  • Prepare and submit legal entity group tax reporting at GTC to be uploaded in CONDOR to CFP quarterly for consolidation purposes in a timely manner.

  • Prepare and submit tax related year-end Notes package to CFP for consolidation purposes in a timely manner.

Treasury

  • Review and perform cash management, including management of foreign exposures.

Financial Reporting and Accounting

  • Produce and analyze daily trading Profit and Loss statements using data from Metal trading system.

  • Perform daily broker reconciliations.

  • Reconcile daily PL and posting in SAP at the end of month.

  • Prepare IFRS reporting package.

  • Prepare the local statutory account schedules.

  • Liaise with the Internal and external auditors.

Controlling

  • Preparethe monthly KPI reports and forecasts.

  • Prepare annual budgets and analyse the discrepancies from actual.

  • Analyse and communicate profitability and costs as per inquiries from internal purpose or regional/global controlling.

  • Cooperate with CC-EM accountants for required information, analysis or issues/solutions.

Compliance

  • Ensure that a robust system of internal controls exists in order to satisfy internal, year-end and Financial Reporting Compliance (FRC) audits including an update of Process Controls as and when required.

  • Ensure that BASF guidelines are properly implemented and that requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner.

Ad-hoc Project

  • Participate as a company leader in global project and coordinate other team members to perform required actions when and as needed.

Nature and Scope

Work environment(extent of interaction with Supervisor(s) for approval, concurrence, resolution, etc.):

  • This position reports to theFinance ManagerCCM Asia Pacific.

  • The incumbent is responsible for the activities described above at BASF Japan Metals Ltd (BMJL).

Business environment(economic or technological conditions dealt with on a regular basis):

  • The Catalysts division is on operating division headquartered in the United States.

  • CCM (Precious and Base Metals Services) is a global business unit within the Catalysts division.

  • This position operates with in a highly complex, multiple product (including precious metals) and operations environment.

  • Organizational relationships are complex as this business operates on a global level comprising of all regions and includes joint venture partners.

Internal and external relationships(nature and frequency):

  • Interacts frequently with members of the business unit in the region, local finance organizations and corporate departments.

  • Interacts with our joint venture partners at NECC as and when required.
