The Job:

As a EHS Director, Distribution Centers (DC) Americas, you’ll be part of our Corporate Responsibility Environmental Health & Safety team working as a on-site employee. You’ll get to:

  • Provide centralized leadership of and resources for individual plant EHS functional teams to assure baseline compliance programs are in place and functioning and that material compliance and SBD corporate obligations are consistently met.

  • As a member of SBD Global EHS Team, the Regional EHS Director, Distribution Centers (DC) Americas is responsible to drive compliance and management system program development and execution and for material regulatory compliance at all facilities in the regional portfolio.

  • Development and onboarding of Site EHS and Plant Leaders.

  • All DC facilities in the Americas region will meet all material EHS regulatory and SBD requirements.

  • Influence and collaborate with distribution plant, operations and business leaders.

  • Provide sites with technical support, expertise, direction, leadership, strategic planning, and prioritization to achieve EHS performance objectives aligned to corporate goals.

  • Plan, direct, and execute on EHS initiatives to enhance the safety culture, and identify, evaluate, effectiveness of controls necessary to drive improvements in EHS performance and operating efficiency.

  • Drives EHS hazard and risk identification, using risk assessment process/tools to identify system gaps, and improvement actions to ensure program requirements and compliance obligations are met.

  • Assess facility programs (roadmap) and corporate EHS audit program elements against performance standards and directs short-term planning actions to set targets and objectives for the site and drives actions to completion.

  • Ensures ongoing compliance with all environmental permits, regulations, training, and reporting requirements for assigned facilities.

  • Ensure timely incident reporting, including claims management, and investigations to identify root causes, and corrective/preventative action plans are completed, or on track with resources needed to complete.

  • Ensure on-time and accurate reporting of safety, energy, waste, and water data by validating and assuring data in EHS data management system.

  • Report on regional EHS risks, KPIs and trends accurately with data and identify corrective actions towards continuous improvements in collaboration with site and business leaders.

  • Interface with regulatory agencies on compliance matters to minimize impact to the business, prepare local teams for agency inspections and interactions. Partner with legal and COE in leading site team with response to information requests from government agencies.

  • Directly support the selection, development, and mentoring of site EHS managers and professional staff.

  • Support the execution of M&A activities, and ensure full integration of newly acquired sites into SBD EHS Management System

  • Establish a sense of urgency to investigate and mitigate serious incidents aligned with SBD review and escalation process.

  • This position reports directly to the Sr. Director, EHS Americas Region in a hybrid model, flexibility is required to respond to emergencies, domestic and occasional international travel required up to 50%

The Person:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental Management in a large industrial warehouse/distribution center environment (preferably global diversified company), with 3-5 years leading program at the corporate level.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS Management, Transportation Safety, Environmental Science, Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Deep knowledge and experience managing safety & regulatory compliance aspects of industrial racking systems and Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV), loading docks, training etc.

  • In-depth knowledge of environmental compliance, health and safety management, regulatory, legal systems, DOT hazardous material & IATA dangerous goods transportation requirements, and sustainability framework.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the safety aspects of racking and storage systems, including automation and robotic applications.

  • The Regional EHS Director, Distribution Centers (DC) Americas, translates, and directly supports the site-level implementation of EHS programs aligned to SBD policies, and regularly audits performance to identify gaps and corrective actions.

  • Ability to direct teams, manage and develop individuals. This position works closely with plant/site leaders and other department managers to execute the programs.

  • Possess leadership, technical problem solving, communication, and influencing skill to be a credible partner with site, operational and business leaders.

  • EHS Certification e.g., CHMM, CSP preferred.
