JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applications for the position of the Open Publishing Accessibility and Production Specialis t in the Research Informatics and Publishing department. This full -time position will report to the Open Publishing Program Coordinator and serve as a member of the Open Publishing Program unit.
This position will primarily provide PDF and web accessibility support for all journal publications and provide feedback and guidance for accessible journal templates in both Word and HTML . Accessibility and template work is done using primarily Microsoft Office, Adobe suite and various accessibility tools (such as CommonLook , AxesPDF , and PAC 2024) . Additional accessibility and editorial work may be required to support non-journal publications on other open-source platforms (Drupal, primarily) to publish open access scholarly monographs, bibliographies, and other digital publications. The position will also provide onboarding and continued support for open access journals , including providing instruction on use of the journal publishing platform, some basic web design work and customization using HTML/CSS, and some copyediting and typesetting services for both article and website content. The position will also work to create training and reference materials for journal editors in these areas using multimedia production and editing tools. Finally, this position will assist with troubleshooting the journal publishing platform an d reporting journal users' needs to the Libraries Strategic Technologies department, which supports these platforms.
Required qualification s:
Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience .
Proficient in office productivity software (especially word processors and spreadsheets) and Adobe CS (especially Acrobat Pro , InDesign and Photoshop ) for creating document templates.
Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues and stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications :
Knowledge of document and web accessibility best practices.
Understanding of HTML/CSS.
Familiarity with the scholarly publishing process.
Familiarity with content management systems, publishing platforms, and/or open-source software such as Open Journal Systems (OJS) and Drupal .
F amiliarity with multimedia production and editing tools to create training materials.
Experience with copyediting.
This position can be fully remote and is not eligible for work authorization sponsorship.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
