JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking Penn State students to fill the position of Facility Attendant at Stone Valley Recreation Area.

Facility Attendants create the “first impression” for Campus Recreation facilities; Greet customers and provide exceptional customer service. Facility attendants take on many roles within the recreation area including: Opening and Closing facilities and services; Issuing equipment; Performing facility checks and counts; Assisting customers into rental boats; Spot cleaning rental facilities (cabins lodges, pavilions, etc.); and Maintaining recreation equipment. While not requirements for the position, some facility attendants will also be trained to operate the safety boat, and to manage cash operations. Facility Attendants must possess the ability to accommodate last minute changes/requests to accommodate rental patrons or programs, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Facility attendants also have excellent interpersonal skills and must attend monthly staff meetings. Facility Attendants may also be trained in other areas based on skills and interest, these areas include sales, safety boat operations, and program delivery. Facility Attendants who are trained to manage sales will have basic computer skills and be familiar with cash handling/sales. Facility Attendants who are trained to operate the safety boat will have excellent boating skills and be able to demonstrate those skills through a practical drill. Facility Attendants who are trained to conduct recreation programs will have excellent interpersonal skills and may also design new programs for participants. Must be a team player, willing to cover or trade shifts when necessary. Work hours vary including days, evenings, and weekends. CPR/First Aid/AED certification required or ability to obtain within one month of hire. Classes are offered through Campus Recreation on a regular basis. Pennsylvania Boating Safety Education Certificate or equivalent highly recommended. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation. Must have access to a reliable form of transportation. Positions are mostly seasonal in nature with the primary hours available from mid-March through mid-November. Hiring preference will be given to Penn State University students and we build your work schedule around your class schedule.

Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellbeing, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatic Programs, Fitness and Wellbeing Programs, Club Sports, and Intramural Sports.
