JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Both job positions will involve research activities related to the main award's goal to understand how users interact with online platforms, as well as how platforms shape user behavior. Experiences with human-centered design and development and video games are desired. The two positions are funded by an NSF REU supplement and responsible for one major research objective, described as below.
Identifying Risk and Safety Factors in Users' Experiences with Platforms
The goal of this research activity is to develop an understanding of how community members use existing communication tools to exchange understandings of community norms and learn from each other. Findings from this research activity will aid the main award's activities in developing deeper insights into how punished users and the rest of the community create a social learning environment for the development of shared understanding and, ultimately, behavioral improvement.
Specific tasks include collecting data from social media sites such as Reddit, using qualitative, quantitative, and computational methods to analyze data, as well as helping prepare manuscripts for conference submissions.
Due to grant funding requirements, applicants must be either US citizens or permanent residents.
