JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Humanities Institute (HI) at The Pennsylvania State University seeks Visiting Research Professors to begin in the fall of the 2021-22 academic year. The mission of the Institute is to support research and teaching in the humanities in a collaborative spirit and in so doing underscore the social value of humanities work. This position is part of the Humanities in the World initiative which created the availability of Visiting Research Professors at the Institute beginning in the 2019-20 Academic year and continuing into the future.
Scholars must have a PhD or equivalent and be at least three years out from the completion of the degree. Applicants must be nominated by current Penn State faculty, and evidence of shared research interests with a significant number of faculty must be shown. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
Applications can be for any time period from three weeks to a full year, beginning in Fall 2021.
Support for Visitors will include partial salary replacement, office space and research support, and integration into a community of scholars who value collaboration and interdisciplinary scholarship.
No teaching is required during the Residency, but residence at Penn State University Park is expected. Participation in appropriate Penn State research groups and initiatives is encouraged according to the needs and preferences of the Visiting Research Professor.
The objective of the program is to provide Scholars with an opportunity to pursue research projects that enhance the social value of humanities work.
