The Illinois Scholars at Risk Program Coordinator will provide support for the Illinois Scholars at Risk Program (ISAR). ISAR is based in the Illinois Global Institute and is administered by a Provost-appointed campuswide committee. ISAR supports scholars outside the United States who face severe threats to their well-being and are unable to remain in their home country by bringing scholars to campus to be hosted on a visiting basis by campus units. The ISAR Program Coordinator works with the ISAR committee to develop an annual cohort of ISAR scholars, collaborates and coordinates with ISAR host units across campus, works closely with internal and external stakeholders, and oversees ISAR communications and marketing.

Duties & Responsibilities

Program Coordination & Management

Develop a cohort of ISAR scholars in close collaboration with ISAR Campus Committee and external partners of ISAR including but not limited to Scholars at Risk network (SAR), IIE Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF), IIE Artist Protection Fund (IIE-APF), New University in Exile Consortium.

Ensure the ISAR requirements for host units and expectations for ISAR scholar visits are communicated to ISAR host units, internal stakeholders, and external program partners.

Work closely with ISAR Campus Committee, internal host units, and external partners of ISAR to organize ISAR scholar visits.

Work closely with Illinois Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Illinois Global Institute (IGI), College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS), and/or host unit Human Resources, as appropriate, on visa processing for ISAR scholars.

Work with Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) on processing external fellowships of ISAR scholars, including proposals and agreements.

Meet with ISAR scholars throughout their appointments on campus to build a community and check in on the overall experience.

Assist with extending scholar appointments into a second year, as needed and if jointly agreed upon by ISAR scholar and host unit.

Maintain statistics and data on the ISAR Program.

Compile and distribute ISAR reports as requested.

Evaluate scholars\' experiences including housing.

Maintain confidential files.

Serve as a representative of ISAR at university and community events as needed.

Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the ISAR Program.

Administration & Financial Management

Work with ISAR Committee Chair to develop the annual budget.

Provide budget updates to the ISAR Committee Chair throughout the fiscal year.

Maintain records of expenditures.

Serve as a liaison to the Office of Provost on ISAR budget matters.

Use university credit cards for ISAR expenses, including but not limited to travel, supplies, household wares, catering, and events.

Process ISAR expenses and submit expense reports and invoices in Chrome River.

Build and maintain knowledge of grant and gift administration, including but not limited to familiarity with executed agreements and funder agreements.

Serve as a liaison to Housing contacts and ensure the continuance of effective agreements.

Maintain records of ISAR scholars, host units, funding sources, and arrival/departure dates.

Coordinate the arrival of ISAR scholars with the host unit.

Monitor scholar appointments to ensure accuracy.

Communication & Marketing

Adhere to brand standards established by the university and College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

Coordinate with and leverage resources and training provided by the college\'s Office of Communications and Marketing.

Contribute to communication: collect, organize, and disseminate informa ion for listservs, newsletters, social media, and website updates.

Maintain the ISAR handbook and update it as needed.

Serve as a liaison to the IGI Communications Coordinator.

Serve as a liaison to campus host units and media outlets.

Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the unit.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree.
  • One year of experience in education, training, or working with international scholars.
  • Demonstrated experience managing events or programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master\'s degree
  • Experience working with at risk scholars.
  • Experience working in higher education.

Knowledge of University academic and administrative procedures and policies.

Ability to work independently, use discretion, handle confidential matters, and manage complex projects.

Attention to detail.

Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Demonstrated effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
