PruittHealth Behavior Program Specialist in Valdosta, Georgia

JOB PURPOSE:

Provides behavior therapy and monitoring for all residents as assigned by the Neuropsychologist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Neuropsychologist/ Clinical Social Worker, the behavior specialist, will:

  1. Observe and Assess patients' behavior.

  2. Implement treatment plans to address behavioral issues.

  3. Collaborate with Neuropsychologist and Psychiatrist to follow behavioral treatment plans

  4. Support patients throughout the treatment process.

  5. Communicate with patients, caregivers, and families to implement treatment plans.

  6. Monitor and record treatment progress.

  7. Conduct assessments to determine patients' improvements.

  8. Maintain patient records and treatment reports.

  9. Collaborate with other healthcare specialists and support organizations.

  10. Possess strong working knowledge of behavioral theory and applied behavior analysis.

  11. Conduct group treatment as outlined in patient plan of care.

  12. Read current literature, talk with colleagues, and participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in behavior theory and practice.

  13. Treats a patient using therapeutic methods for behavior therapy and, monitoring the effects of any interventions, and adjusting treatment where necessary.

  14. Consults with the patient’s Psychiatrist, Primary Care Physician, Nurses or other health care

providers. assists with crisis intervention when needed and appropriate.

  1. Writes and maintains patient and clinical records, including the type of treatment and behavioral therapy.

  2. Follow ethical and legal policies, procedures, and standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Maintains skills and knowledge through continuing education. Applies information to job responsibilities.

• Participates in center/agency surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.

• Attends and participates in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in your field as well as to maintain current skill sets, as required.

• Attends and participates in mandatory in-services.

• Honors patients/residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.

• Complies with corporate compliance program.

• Reports job-related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards including exposure to blood and body fluids and others as necessary.

• Follows established safety regulations, to include fire protection & prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.

• Follows established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment.

• Communicates well with patients/residents/clients and family members providing warm and friendly greeting and an approachable attitude to families, visitors, patients/residents/clients and responds to expressed concerns while displaying a helpful, caring demeanor. Answers questions when appropriate in a professional manner.

• Demonstrates knowledge of emergency and disaster protocols

• Working knowledge of policies and procedures for workplace safety, infection control, Standard Precautions for Blood Borne Pathogens, use of personal protective equipment and the handling of hazardous materials.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Graduate with at least a bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree is preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

One (1) year professional experience in the field as a behavior specialist. 5+ years preferred.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)

• Experience in providing treatment to individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury and Poly-Trauma along with program development and post-acute care medical conditions.
