We’re looking for a Senior Network Engineer to be a key member of our onsite Oracle Networking team in support of legacy technologies, Cisco & Alcatel/Lucent, to provide World-class support and participate in the design & implementation of new technologies to meet the growing needs of a healthcare system in Valhalla, NY.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will design, support, install, and maintain Cerner’s internal network infrastructure, related technologies and equipment. As a member of this team, you will design, support, install and maintain local area network, wide area network, and wireless network components. You will be responsible for providing direction and recommendations regarding network configurations and installations as well as configure or upgrade network components. In addition, you will coordinate network changes and communicate with impacted stakeholders, perform project work to update or replace network equipment and solve complex network connectivity issues. In this role, you will work on and maintain hardware components as needed, including firewalls, load balancers, routers, switches and access points. Finally, you will also mentor and support other associates in daily tasks and troubleshooting and work with organizations where appropriate to assist in the resolution of infrastructure-related problems.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of total combined related work experience and completed higher education, including:

  • At least 2 years of system administration and/or system engineering work experience

  • At least 6 years of additional work experience directly related to the duties of the job and/or completed higher education, including:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, related field or equivalent relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA)

  • Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA)

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Wireless

  • Cisco & Alcatel/Lucent experience

Expectations

  • Must reside in or around the Valhalla, NY area

  • Willing to travel up to 20% as needed

  • May be required to lift up to 30 lbs., i.e. server, network equipment

  • Willing to work additional or irregular hours as needed and allowed by local regulations

  • Work in accordance with corporate and organizational security policies and procedures, understand personal role in safeguarding corporate and client assets, and take appropriated action to prevent and report any compromises of security within scope of position

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Responsibilities

Maintain records of equipment failure and liaise with engineers and suppliers as necessary. Raise client problems according to established procedures. Manage the network using network management tools, analyze network performance and recommend network enhancements. Analyze network performance to ensure adequate bandwidth for business needs. Recommend enhancements to the network infrastructure, and with management agreement enhance proactive network management tool set. Troubleshoot network problems on the multi-campus network & remote locations. Perform Project Engineering including specification definition, design of solution in compliance with corporate standards, implementation, testing through to production. Respond to monitor alarms to identify the root cause of an outage and coordinate the corrective action in a timely fashion. Provide on-call support services as needed and provide assistance to others.

US: Hiring Range: from $33.94 to $67.93 per hour; from $70,600 to $141,300 per annum. May be eligible for equity.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
