Empire State University seeks a full-time Internship Coordinator with experience in networking, building relationships, and identifying internship opportunities for students. The Internship Coordinator (State Title: Senior Staff Assistant) will report to the Director of Career & Experiential Learning Services within the division of Student Success. The Internship Coordinator works with employers (internal and external) to source internship opportunities for Empire State University student, collaborate with Director of Career & Experiential Learning Services to align internships with academic programs, and manage support services for students seeking internships,

The successful candidate will be committed to student success by supporting SUNY Empire students and ensuring they have information and access to local resources across the state. This person must be collaborative, independent, a self-starter, and able to work with diverse faculty, staff, and students.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Manage and track internships and provide support for students and faculty.

  • Screen employers to determine, along with supervisor, an appropriate level of engagement.

  • Work with students and faculty to source opportunities that support degree programs and student's career goals.

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national employers to source student internship opportunities. The primary location will be the State of New York.

  • Collaborate with Director of Career & Experiential Learning Services to align internship opportunities with academic programs.

  • Maintain strong relationships with employers to understand their needs and expectations for interns.

  • Collaborate with employers to ensure a smooth onboarding process and ongoing support for students and employers.

  • Source articles and write articles for Career Hub to support students and internships. Contribute resources to support student success related to internships.

  • Provide support to students and employers throughout the internship period and address any issues that may arise.

  • Maintain accurate records of internship experiences and evaluations.

  • Track data trends and Career Hub analytics to make data-informed recommendations relevant to the Office of Career & Experiential Learning Services.

  • Develop an evaluation process to include employer feedback on student experience and student feedback on overall experience.

  • Internships to include employer panels, Ask5 segments with employers and student participants, skills development and overall process for internships.

  • Coordinate support services to assist student internship experiences including access to professional clothing, childcare, and travel needs.

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • A minimum of two years relevant experience with career services, experiential learning, or employment counseling.

  • Strong understanding of labor market trends, job search strategies, and industry-specific requirements.

  • Evidence of relationship-building or project-management skills.

  • Evidence of ability to communicate, engage, and develop rapport with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds and varied age, gender, and sexual orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Career Services experience in a higher education environment or Human Resources experience.

  • Proficiency in using career development technology platforms and online resources.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with different stakeholders and programs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.

  • Prior knowledge of and experience in working with bilingual and emergent bilingual learners, particularly in online settings.

Special Information:

  • May involve occasional travel to university locations across New York State.

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

  • SUNY Empire provides employees with robust remote and flexible work options to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff in a dispersed work environment. University locations that may be considered include Saratoga Springs, Rochester and Selden, NY.

    Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: SL3 / $55,000-$60,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
