Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented and tech savvy field technician to assist with entry-level Forestry work on state lands in Vermont. Employment runs approximately from May through November, but exact dates may be flexible depending on candidate. State fleet vehicles are available, and their use is preferable, but use of personal vehicle may be required on occasion, with mileage reimbursed. Project duties may include forest inventory, timber sale marking, boundary line marking, road and trail maintenance, kiosk and gate installation and maintenance, invasive plant management, hazard tree removal, trailhead maintenance, trail project oversight, road and trail assessments, wildlife habitat improvement, and data management. The selected candidate will work with the State Lands staff to create a work plan and execute identified projects. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed forester or forest recreation specialist.\ Positions are being hired in fourdistrict offices{target="_blank" rel="noopener"}: Barre, Rutland, St. Johnsbury and Essex Junction.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed more than half the time in a field setting involving exposure to all types of weather conditions and\ biting insects. Strength and agility are needed in traversing steep and rough terrain. Some work outside of regular\ working hours may be required. Strong and conflicting public opinions may be encountered. Must be comfortable\ working alone in remote areas and in a team environment.
