Role

We are seeking a Relationship Manager to support the relationship management and client service needs of the Client Group team , with particular focus on our institutional and strategic clients in Australia and New Zealand. This individual will work closely with the Business Development Managers on shared accounts and lead engagements with clients to understand their investment goals and servicing needs, as well as addressing any issues, concerns or opportunities.

The Relationship Manager will be focused on maintaining and growing existing client relationships and play a key role in client retention efforts, including defence strategies, while working collaboratively with internal teams to onboard new client accounts and ensure excellent service delivery and compliance with applicable regulations. As a senior member of the team, they will work with the Director, Australia & New Zealand on business strategy and have people management responsibilities, leading and developing a high performing team.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Independently and proactively lead engagements with clients to understand their investment and servicing needs, including discussing their portfolios with Wellington, providing high level service expertise and hosting client meetings as required.

  • Act as a strategic thought partner to Business Development Managers on shared accounts, analyse performance data, investment characteristics, and risk profiles of client portfolios and proxy on portfolio reviews, as needed.

  • Serve as a central point of contact internally and externally to ensure servicing needs are met.

  • Prepare for, lead/attend and provide follow-up on client meetings and inquiries, as needed.

  • Possess a deep understanding of the industry/market/channel in which their clients operate.

  • Understand client’s overall objectives that influence their investment and servicing requirements.

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of and appreciation for the client marketplace, including regulatory, accounting, tax, and asset allocation considerations.

  • Manage client expectations, balancing the interests of both clients and the organisation.

  • Work closely with subject matter experts firmwide to onboard new client accounts and process subsequent client transition events and cash flows.

  • Partner with other functional areas to address client issues, concerns, and opportunities.

  • Liaise with the client and internal parties to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Identify opportunities to create efficiencies and assist in internal initiatives to implement recommendations.

  • Participate in working groups, committees and special projects from time to time, according to interests, skillsets and organisational need.

  • People management – leading and developing junior talent by providing guidance, coaching, mentoring and timely feedback, while identifying and addressing talent gaps as needed. Develop team members by identifying and carving out opportunities for the team to work independently.

  • Foster an inclusive culture of collaboration and excellence, with a focus on retaining and motivating talent and being a role model to the rest of the team.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidate with:

  • Extensive experience in the investment industry and a solid understanding of the local markets and institutional investors' needs.

  • Broad investment knowledge of the capital markets with the ability to communicate market insights to clients, and represent equity, fixed income and alternatives portfolios to institutional clients.

  • Proven capability to independently manage and lead client engagements, many with multiple investment assignments with our firm.

  • Management experience developing a high performing team.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment that requires exceptional teamwork.

  • Proactivity and willingness to learn and grow within the role.
