UL, LLC Business Unit Senior Director - Automotive Software, Consulting & Testing, Inspection, and Certification in Berlin, Germany

The New Mobility & Critical Systems sub-business unit serves customers in automotive and related industries, and partners with end customers to develop software-intensive systems. Our advisory expertise covers the interrelated fields of Automotive SPICE, Functional Safety, Autonomy Safety, Cybersecurity, traditional Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC), and more. We also support engineering services from a position of expertise in such topics as software architecture, systems engineering, agile development, artificial intelligence, and more. UL Solutions New Mobility & Critical Systems offers over 100 unique training courses to our customer base in our areas of expertise.

UL Solutions New Mobility & Critical Systems group is the developer of the Stages platform for process definition, management, and integration across our customers' enterprise. Major global customers choose Stages to harness the power of process rigor in their development of software-intensive systems for their products in safety-critical applications in the automotive, medical, and aerospace industries.

  • Manage the overall business with full P&L responsibility for the Mobility & Critical Systems business globally, with 300 employees.

  • Manage the business' owned commercial and fulfilment operations, including oversight of expert consultants and engineers working on engineering, training, and advisory programs. The business is also responsible for the development, commercialization, and technical support for the Stages software platform.

  • Develops, executes, and implements commercial and operational strategy to drive organic/inorganic growth and profitability while ensuring customer satisfaction through a deep understanding of the customer and market intelligence.

  • Review existing UL services for automotive critical systems and develop future portfolios of product and service offerings to meet future demand.

  • Develop a consolidated view of what a winning portfolio looks like for New Mobility & Critical Systems.

  • Identify opportunities to fully address the needs of the automotive critical systems developers and build future capabilities to support those market needs. Software-intensive-systems and adjacent technologies and capabilities are the foundation of the long-range plan for the New Mobility & Critical Systems group.

  • Lead or participate in the execution of business plans, long-range strategic plans, and revenue plans and forecasts.

  • Serve as an executive presence and point of contact for senior-level customer decision-makers, especially in the automotive industry.

  • Operates effectively in the UL Solutions matrix to actively support and drive high performance culture changes, transformation efforts, and people engagement. Obtain buy-in and drive service-level commitment from UL Solutions shared services to support in alignment to the business goals.

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders including OEMs, suppliers, industry groups, regulators, and others.

  • Collaborate with all stakeholders as appropriate (for example, on services delivered by other UL Solutions business units, collaborate to ensure seamless fulfilment).

  • Drives a high performing team by collaborating with leaders in managing the performance and development of team members.

  • Holds team and self-accountable for results, defines accountabilities and establishes performance objectives and metrics to execute strategy.

  • University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree) in Engineering, Computing and Information Systems. MBA is preferred.

  • 15 Years or more of experience in services and enterprise software implementation, relating to the definition, development, and verification of software-intensive systems. Direct automotive industry experience is highly preferred.

  • Experience in Testing, Inspection, Certification (TIC) is preferred.

  • Strong technical and business/economic foundation, including formal account planning, sales strategy development, sales tracking, and measurement. The best candidates will have significant experience in establishing new organizations and relevant systems, processes, KPIs, and management schemes.

  • Prior proven experience managing a P&L in an advisory services and software business

  • Ability to interact with customers throughout all levels of their organization which include highly visible activities such as negotiating or presenting.

  • Requires a focused individual that has a clear vision, excellent grasp of modern software-development techniques and related processes and standards, strong soft skills and capability for strategic thinking.

  • Proven ability to work and lead in a highly matrixed organizational structure.

  • Experience in integration of acquired companies is strongly preferred.
