The Role: Agricultural Economist (crops, EAMA), Food & Agricultural Commodities

The Team: We are currently looking for an Agricultural analyst to join S&P Global Commodity Insights’ dynamic Food and Agricultural Commodities team to help develop our coverage of European markets. The F&AC team produces world class analysis, forecasts and data across comprehensive global commodity markets.

The Role: The Agricultural Economist (crops) is a core member of the EAMA team to produce and publish quality analysis and assist senior staff in their own analysis. The role is an integral part of the overall analysis and forecasting of global crops (wheat, corn, oilseeds, rice, etc.), with a focus on coverage of markets in Europe/Black Sea.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis of fundamental supply and demand drivers impacting global agricultural markets, working with the teams covering oilseeds, rice, wheat, corn and other markets, with a focus on Europe and Black Sea. They will work closely with the Head Economist (global head of crops) and the European crops team to ensure overall quality and alignment of analysis. The role will contribute to tracking developments impacting supply/demand producers, processors, exporters, and importers in Asia.

  • They will take part in interaction with customers who are both based in Europe and/or seek insights into European markets, presenting both EAMA-specific analysis and the global analysis produced by other teams.  

  • The Agricultural Economist will convey the results of their research through a variety of outlets including internal meetings, written reports for clients, the S&P Global Commodity Insights Connect platform, formal presentations, and informal interactions with clients via conference calls and emails.  The position also involves working cooperatively with other areas of the Agribusiness Intelligence business, contributing expertise to consulting projects and other activities as needed. 

  • Working with Senior Analysts/Economists to publish Daily Comments, Weekly Reports and Featured Analysis. Assist Senior Analysts/Economists in developing and maintaining the Crops Team’s fundamental supply and demand work for European markets, including price forecasts and development of price risk management strategies for clients across the global food and agriculture spectrum.   

What We’re Looking For:

  • A BS Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Business Administration. An advanced degree is beneficial.

  • A high degree of analytic ability with an ability to communicate the results in reports.

  • Experience conducting economic or commodity market research.

  • 1-2 years of experience is a plus but not required.

  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills, and the ability to develop trust and respect from both colleagues as well as clients.

  • Superior written and oral communications.

  • Outstanding written communication skills and attention to detail.

  • A good understanding of the economic theory and an ability to apply it to both cash and futures commodity markets.

  • Excellent MS Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Power BI skills.
