* Please note, candidates pursuing exams as well as those not pursuing exams will be considered for this role. This role can be part of our Actuarial Student Program for an individual meeting requirements for entry into the program. *

This position is a part of the Small Commercial Spectrum Actuarial team which provides support for The Hartford $1.4B Commercial Multi-Peril business. Spectrum is our flagship Business Owner's Policy (BOP) insurance coverage, which is a combination of Property and Liability coverage. This position will have opportunities to work on Product Development, Product Monitoring, Class Plan Development, Monthly Business Review, Loss Ratio Planning, and Rate Filings. This position provides interactions with various business partners, including Product/Line of Business, Product Management, Underwriting, Reserving, Small Commercial Territory Actuarial, Data Science, and others, to drive continued the innovation and successful performance of Spectrum. Candidates should bring a strong ability to drive execution but also have an eye for process improvement to optimize work flows.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Product/Line of Business/Underwriting partners on new coverage and coverage enhancement initiatives, as well as work on a new class plan in order to profitably grow

  • Perform management reporting activities, such as Monthly Business Review materials, and participation in cross-segment working groups

  • Participate in loss ratio trend and other analyses which support multiple aspects of the Spectrum team’s work

  • Monitor book performance and contribute to profitability goals, including performing rate adequacy analyses, and communication to management and business partners

  • Partner with Territory Actuarial and Product Management to guide and implement rate strategy across all states and Spectrum class plans, including preparation of rate filings, responding to regulatory requests related to rate filings, and contributing to the technical advancement of analytical tools

  • Manage and Enhance R tools

  • Ad hoc/deep-dive analyses

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-5+ years’ experience in insurance or related industry.

  • ACAS or strong progress towards actuarial credentials preferred. We will consider filling this role as part of our actuarial student program for a candidate meeting requirements for entry into the program. .

  • Strong technical, analytical, and data skills. Excel required and experience in SAS or R preferred.

  • Experience working independently as well as part of a team.

  • Strong time management skills and an eye towards process improvement and developing efficiencies.

  • Build innovation and project management skills as we continue on our journey to transform our profitability monitoring and rate execution processes

  • Develop strong analytical and communication skills, with a focus on providing actionable insight

  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
