Dimensions

  • The Underground Maintenance Superintendent- Fixed will report to the Asset Manager.

  • This role will be responsible for fixed/stationary/electrical maintenance activities at both the Borden and Hoyle underground mine sites.

  • The role will focus on the safety and costs of the maintenance department to support the operations teams to achieve budgeted production as well as the improvement of asset performance in terms of safety, production, cost control and sustainability.

  • This role will require close collaboration with site leadership at both sites as well as corporate subject matter experts.

Purpose

The Underground Maintenance Superintendent - Fixed primary purpose:

  • To oversee the development, implementation and optimization of an asset maintenance and management strategy that provides mechanical and equipment capability, reliability and availability of all underground fixed plant assets.

  • To help in the development, directing and monitoring planned preventive and predictive maintenance programs for the greatest operating profit while maximizing equipment efficiencies as per manufacturer’s specifications.

  • To oversee electrical maintenance activities on electrical distribution system coming to site, power distribution on site, instrumentation needs, underground power support and power systems related to diesel generation.

  • To ensure that direct reports and respective work areas are in compliance with all of Newmont and Porcupine Health and Safety policies and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • To ensure direct reports have the necessary training, skills, knowledge and tools to do their jobs safely.

  • To observe maintenance operations to detect violation of safety regulations and compile safety and production records. Provide support to all areas on issues that jointly involve production and safety. Assist in accident and incident investigations and ensure that recommendations are implemented by agreed upon dates.

Asset Management Strategy

  • Ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner in compliance with applicable Codes, Company Health and safety policies and Mine regulations

  • Implement fixed maintenance and electrical strategies, systems and standards for site to reduce risk and variation.

  • Provide site-wide management and leadership for the successful implementation of the reliability-focused maintenance management operating system.

  • Report performance of the team using key performance indicators, with emphasis on continuous improvement and trend analysis.

  • Implement project recommendations when deemed beneficial eg Hazop, risk contingency planning, etc.

  • Coordinate labour, equipment and supplies for projects to ensure continuous workflow remains on schedule

  • Assist with the development, and provide leadership to implement the property-wide asset management system.

  • Stay abreast of current advances in applications of technology to asset management.

  • Oversee the installation/maintenance of all electrical equipment and infrastructure materials ensuring build elements comply with manufacturer’s standards and specifications and all relevant code requirements

Provide Leadership

  • Build an appropriate team through recruitment and development.

  • Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required to achieve business plans and production targets.

  • Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the current and future needs of the mine.

  • Ensure the required resources and equipment are in place to achieve planned production, while meeting planned costs.

  • Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching to direct reports.

  • Work collaboratively with Joint Health and Safety Committee.

  • Collaborate with HR with any employee relations issues

  • Promote and maintain a high performance culture.

Strategic Planning

  • Support and contribute to the activities of the Planning and Reliability teams

  • Provide input in budgeting and forecasting process and then operate successfully within budget.

  • Maintain a strong focus on cost control.

  • Develop business cases and IRP’s for required spend whether budgeted or unbudgeted.

Training & Experience

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering or Certified Electrician or combination of relevant education and experience

  • 5-10 years of supervisory experience

  • 5-10 years of experience at an underground operating site and a proven successful track record with fixed asset maintenance.

  • Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) certification or Maintenance Management Professional certification would be an asset.

  • Project management experience is an asset.

  • CMMS and SAP experience is considered an asset

Working Conditions

This is a site based position supporting our Porcupine Gold Mine Operations in Timmins, ON

The schedule is 4 days on 3 days off.

The successful candidate will need to reside in or relocate to the Timmins, ON area.
