VELCO Developer - Applications and Integrations, Senior in United States

The Senior Developer - Applications and Integrations, will be responsible for enterprise applications, data management, and integration in an industry undergoing rapid data transformation. The position requires adaptability, teamwork, collaboration, organization, troubleshooting skills, a strong commitment to customer service, and the ability to lead and mentor others.

Supports a variety of application platforms, including desktop, mobile, GIS, data visualization, and dashboards. Working in collaboration with the IT team and business stakeholders, this role is responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of the enterprise application environment adhering to compliance and security requirements. This level will perform complex and specialized software development and integration support functions, such as troubleshooting, analysis, research, debugging and problem solving.

Expectations are that the Senior Developer will exhibit the talent and skills to make competent engineering recommendations and decisions, to manage technical projects with minimum to no manager oversight. It is normal for an individual to be in this job classification for a large part of their career. It is expected that expertise in a particular area of design and development is achieved in this classification.

How you will make an impact

  • Facilitate productive working relationships with enterprise customers, system engineers, and developers to understand evolving system, application, and data requirements.

  • Lead and assist in the development of data models for new and ongoing projects, including migration from legacy application.

  • Lead and collaborate with department subject matter experts on strategy development.

  • Determine operational feasibility by problem definition, identifying requirements, developing and proposing solutions.

  • Develop and deliver solutions which meet system specifications and standards.

  • Coordinate and manage application support functions, including patching, upgrades, and continuity plans.

  • Adhere and contribute to security standards and frameworks.

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, leveraging ITSM, SDLC, Change Management, and Project Management best practices.

  • Complete reports and summaries for management and users including project status and problem reports.

  • Develop and manage vendor relationships.

  • Continuously maintain working knowledge of industry solutions via professional training, vendor and solution events and information, professional networks, and other educational opportunities.

  • Mentor less experienced IT staff and interns.

  • Represent the VELCO IT team on various internal and regional committees, task forces, and industry groups. Attends workshops, reviews, seminars, and training on a regular basis.

  • Participate on key initiatives within the company.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who you are

A Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, the sciences, mathematics or related discipline. A Master's degree is preferred. Equivalent work experience considered. Relevant, industry-specific certifications, including in security and compliance areas, are preferred.

The Senior Developer - Applications and Integrations will typically have greater than 7 years' of related experience.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Thorough programming skills in .NET, web services and API, Unix shell, Powershell, PowerBI, and Javascript.

  • Excellent understanding with database structures.

  • SSRS, SSIS, SSMS. GIS, ESRI knowledge required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in application development utilizing data management and relational databases.

  • Working knowledge of secure development practices and GIS/ESRI.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to create test plans and cases from specifications or verbal communications.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to serve as a liaison with developers, project managers, and customer support.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and project management skills.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with a diverse group of employees throughout the organization.

  • Ability to plan and complete multiple, diverse tasks and meet challenging deadlines.

  • Able to clearly present complex technical information to committees, management, external regulators and industry associations.

Important Considerations

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to maintain fast pace while completing complex, analytical work, in potentially stressful situations, with competing priorities, within tight timelines and with frequent interruptions. Must be able to work additional hours when necessary. Periodic travel and overnight stays will be required when attending industry workshops, trainings, etc.
