United States Steel is looking for an Engineer that will be responsible for applying troubleshooting, and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and make decisions that optimize capital effectiveness across the Corporation. This role will oversee the capital and non-capital financial approval process, coordinate the annual capital plan process, implement process improvements in the engineering department, and analyze data for optimal capital effectiveness. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively engage teams and provide an environment of respect, communication, and collaboration through two-way communication and encouraging new ideas and different perspectives that drive individual, team, and company success.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee capital & non-capital financial approval process for enterprise.

• Assist with development and lead execution of annual capital plan process.

• Collaborate with all locations/departments for effective use of capital funds through optimized prioritization and deployment strategy.

• Implement corporate policies & procedures for proper financial governance.

• Implement & assist with process improvements across capital planning & engineering groups.

• Partner with FP&A and Accounting departments to ensure proper tracking of liabilities, cash flow, and project valuation consistency (I.e. discounted cash flow models).

• Assist with ad hoc analysis requests.

• Auditing of capital project documentation (Project Delivery System).

• In-depth analysis of projects and collections of similar projects, such as blast furnace rebuilds, comparisons across sites, etc.

• Lead cross-facility analysis and optimization for projects, in-flows and out-flows, as well as strategic project support.

• Continue development, implementation, and oversight of project and portfolio management system (Ares Prism) including project scheduling.

Requirements:

• BS in Engineering, Business, or Finance or related field

• Advanced skills in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Office365 tools.

• Process improvement or project management work experience in a manufacturing or industrial business preferred

• General understanding of the carbon steel production process, including iron ore mining and pellet production, coke making, blast furnace operations, steelmaking and continuous casting, hot rolling and processing, cold finishing and coating, tubular products manufacturing, and packaging and shipment of finished products is a plus. Will be required to learn the steel making process upon hire.

• Strong organization skills.

• High analytical & analysis skills.

• Self-starter who takes initiative.

• Oracle experience is a plus.

• Tableau experience is a plus.

• Ability to multitask in a multi-faceted work environment within different types of facilities.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to travel by automobile and aircraft to all U.S. Steel facilities if required.

• Ability to solve technical problems in a logical manner and present alternative solutions for implementation

Salary Range: $85,000. This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
