We are looking for:

This role supports the Levelland plant by leading and managing the production department to achieve HSE and Manufacturing Excellence expectations while reliably, predictably, and efficiently producing and delivering quality products to meet the expectations of the customers.The person in this position will ensure the efficient utilization of departmental resources to continually improve adherence to HSE and quality standards, instill operating discipline, optimize unit operating costs, and implement cost reduction measures (both fixed and variable. The person in this position will be an agent of change instilling discipline, efficiency and accountability to the operations workforce in the overall execution of day to day activities. This position will drive execution of the operations to achieve targeted performance levels.

  • Follow HSSE policies to include:

  • Policies and procedures (PPE, operating manuals).

  • Monitoring implementation of HSE activities with follow-up and correction of discrepancies as assigned.

  • Participates as assigned in incident investigations and corrective measures.

  • Lead the department in achievement of set HSSE goals.

  • Lead employee participation through informal discussions and participation in shift meetings, SLSR audits, housekeeping inspections, behavioral observations, risk assessments, and training sessions

  • Lead compliance to plant HSSE policies and procedures to provide positive feedback to exemplary employees and development of improvement plans where employee performance does not meet expectations.

  • Role model by participation in Behavioral Safety Observations, Risk Assessment and Safety Training.

  • Comply with incident reporting procedures.

  • Lead the site’s compliance with local HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) operating permits and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead, coordinate and/or participate in process hazard reviews, pre startup safety reviews, incident investigation, and management of change.

  • Provide approval for changes proposed in the Production Department and approval to operate equipment, systems, processes, etc, once changes are completed.

  • Act as a site leader role model, participate in employee engagement activities, and be a champion for safety and manufacturing excellence.

  • Lead and support HSSE, process and quality improvement projects. Such as but not limited to:

  • o Process Optimization

  • Cost Optimization

  • SPC Implementation

  • Standardized Work

  • Long term sustainability of continuous improvement projects

  • Manage efforts to reduce product variability and improve quality.

  • Support efforts to industrialize new products and optimize existing products.

  • Manufacture and ship products on time and in a reliable and predictable manner.

  • Manage departmental costs and support other site departments to achieve their respective budgets.

  • Reduce overtime costs while increasing the efficiency and overall output of workforce.

  • Lead, manage, coach, and develop Operations supervisory and support personnel.

  • Conduct daily informal inspections on the shop floor and provide feedback to supervision on observations and corrective actions.

  • Drive root cause identification/failure analysis and corrective actions for HSE and operations related failures.

  • Provide the leadership and establish or refine systems or approaches to instill Operating Discipline in those that perform work.

  • Develop, implement and continually improve operational management systems.

  • Develop, report, and monitor key performance indicators for operations.

  • Introduce the proactive approach to the operations workforce to prevent problems.

  • Fully participate in plant HSE initiatives including performing periodic audits and housekeeping inspections.

  • Instill discipline and accountability in the execution of all procedures, especially SYENSQO Life Critical procedures. Lead this effort by example.

  • Enforce all site and SYENSQO safety rules and procedures within the operations departments, other plant personnel, as well as contractors that are working onsite. Lead by example.

  • Assure appropriate HSE training is provided to all direct and indirect reports.

  • Assure all safety inspections and audits are performed and documented.

  • Assure Process Safety processes and program, including integrity aspects, are maintained and adhered to.

  • Conduct periodic inspections to assure compliance to existing safety rules and procedures and to assess the effectiveness and need for other risk reduction activities within the departments.

  • Participate in regulatory and internal audits as needed.

  • Represent SYENSQO through daily actions that reinforce the corporate values demonstrating personal commitment to a safe, healthy and environmentally sound workplace for employees.

  • Act as Plant Manager when requested and during periods of absence.

  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency and be a leader of change.

You will bring:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or similar Engineering discipline.

  • Other degrees may be considered commensurate with job experience.

  • Five to Ten years working in a chemical process production plant with three or more years of operational (production) supervisory or line management experience preferred.

  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage, motivate, coach, and develop personnel.

  • Ability to set objectives, deliver results, at the same time facilitate cooperation between departments.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of 6 Sigma and/or SAP is a plus, but not required.

  • Needs excellent working understanding and grasp of OSHA standards, concepts, and procedures relating to Life Critical activities. Must have working knowledge of OSHA personnel and process safety standards and a general awareness of air, waste, wastewater, and storm water environmental regulations.

  • Ability to conduct investigations, develop root causes, and to develop/implement corrective actions, either directly or through subordinates.

  • Change management and team building skills.

  • Familiarity with batch and continuous processing a plus.

  • Ability to interface with the appropriate external personnel and serve as a backup to the Plant Manager in both the internal and external affairs.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate with varying functional leaders both internally and externally.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Must have the ability to learn new programs and software as needed.

  • Must have the ability to work under pressure and change assignments quickly.

  • Must be able to communicate information with others verbally and in written forms.

  • Must have good mathematical skills and basic problem solving skills.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Must read and understand written procedures (SOP's) and/or verbal instruction.

  • Ability to work independently with occasional assistance.

  • Ability to take ownership for general processes/products.

  • The ability to meet deadlines and targets.

  • Must have basic understanding of Production Schedules.

You will get:

  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $103,000.00 to $150,000.00. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.

Additional information:

  • Location: Levelland, Texas (USA)

  • This is a dayshift position. Must be punctual and meet attendance requirements.

  • Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.

  • Available to work all shifts. Syensqo operates on a 24/7 basis.

  • Production shifts consist of 12 hours. (For example: following a “2 day on/ 2 day off/ 3 day on/2 day off/2 days on/ 3 day off” rotation).
