Summary You will serve as a Utilities System Repair Operator in the Public Works Department Bethesda of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH. Responsibilities You will maintain constant observation of the control room Control System for condition of equipment and keep watch log, maintain hourly readings, and answer telephone calls from outlying building. You will control the operation of four air compressor plants that supply compressed air. You will make preliminary diagnosis of trouble symptoms and recommend action to correct or shut down equipment to power plant supervisor. You will perform operational maintenance on mechanical equipment and may perform more extensive repairs during slack period, scheduled shut down or in emergencies. You will high-pressure boilers in emergencies and when assigned. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Maintaining utility service (steam, electricity, compressed air and water/wastewater treatment) to all vital production, research and quality assurance areas to prevent loss of production, vital testing, fires and/or explosions; 2) Making preliminary diagnosis of trouble symptoms to recommend action (e.g. correct issues, shut down equipment) to the power plant supervisor; 3) Conducting checks of equipment (generators, boilers, air compressors, electrical distribution systems) by reviewing load demand records, examining dispatch of utilities orders, and observing conditions reflected on control computers; 4) Performing extensive repairs during slack periods and scheduled shut downs to avoid mechanical malfunctions.
