Job Description: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES * Evaluates existing production equipment and layout to design machine and layout designs to enhance productivity, cost efficiency, reliability, and safety. * Optimizes manufacturing processes, including process control, set-up, changeover, automation, die development, new equipment selections and lean manufacturing workflow improvements. * Manages projects including scope development, specifications, schedule, estimating, cost tracking and resource planning for engineering and other technical activities relating to the project to ensure safety, regulatory, and policy requirements are met. Accountable for project execution relative to scope, time, and budget. * Designs with external vendors, basic mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment in response to specific new products or manufacturing process requirements. Which also includes improvements or modifying existing equipment or processes. * Interfaces and coordinates with internal customers (operations and process engineering) to manage outside contractors, gather estimated costs, track proposals, and manage the projects execution. * Provide technical assistance to plant maintenance pertaining to installation, trouble shooting, process control and repair of equipment. * Participates with EH&S resources to implement equipment safety standards and procedures. Supports equipment safety upgrades as needed in the plant network. Supports commitment-based safety. Promotes use of all PPE by employees, ensuring guards and safety features are working, and good daily safety practices and habits. * Performs other duties as assigned.
TRAVEL * As required to support Steel Business Unit when needed and approved.
WORK EXPERIENCE * 4-6 years of Controls & Automation engineering experience with related work experience to include AC & DC motor controls, VFD and Servo motors and controls, HMI systems, PLC's, Relay Logic, Industrial computers and controls, robotics, digital, and analog systems. * 3-5 years of experience with Allan Bradly and Siemens PLC programming in a manufacturing environment * 3 + years of Project Management in manufacturing with practical expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering
EDUCATION * B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or other related technical field.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS * Electrical and Mechanical engineering knowledge and its applications. * Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, and component design * Hands-on experience with set-up, troubleshooting, changeover, and automation. * Experience with new automation, design, trials, and material selection * Advanced proficiency programming and troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment, HMIs, safety devices, etc. * Advanced Ladder Logic programming knowledge with all software platforms having a strong emphasis on Allen Bradley PLC and control logic. * In-depth experience installing and supporting industrial control systems * Strong background in project planning, prioritization, and implementation. PMP certification a plus. * Experience leading projects. Project examples include new equipment, cell design and complete manufacturing line installation. * Strong electromechanical trouble shooting experience. * Experience with new automation development, design, trials, and product selection * Experience with developing detailed plans to improve plant reliability, robustness, and profitability. * Good skill in interpersonal relationships as needed to maintain successful relationships with customers and coworkers at all levels. * Experience with machine repairs, rebuilds and maintenance plans. * Good communication skills for creati g, delivering, and selling ideas or messages. * Good knowledge of OSHA, regulatory compliance, and industrial safety practices * 2D and 3D AutoCAD, emphasizing on AutoCAD Electrical * Computer skills in MS Office programs. Microsoft Project a plus * Strong administrative skills * Strong knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing practices
