About The Opportunity

Jacobs is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver £7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

Jacobs provides the design and engineering capability across the PPP portfolio. Being part of the PPP Team offers a unique opportunity to drive change and innovation in engineering, safety and delivery solutions in one of the most complex industrial sites in the UK, if not the world. We are looking for people who are passionate about developing themselves and in meeting new challenges.

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineering Capability Lead to join the team, ideally in Birchwood or Cumbria, but will consider other locations if you are able to commit to regular travel to our client offices.

This role reports into PPP Engineering Capability Manager. You will be joining a team of technical experts to assure delivery of successful outcomes across a large portfolio of major projects.

Our team will support you and develop you in the role, even if you haven’t experienced all aspects of this type of role previously.

This role will include:

  • Overseeing the Mechanical capability across the portfolio (150 personnel), which is assembled from multiple organisations. You will help drive specific capability development, including recruitment, portfolio resource planning, support to supply chain development, identification of skills gaps and relevant training.

  • Independent technical assurance & expert advice to projects. Including the harvesting and development of Learning from Experience and sharing across the portfolio.

  • Supporting the role out of the “PPP Way” improvements by influencing the engineering leads and their teams

  • You will be working closely with the client Engineering lead team and portfolio senior engineering management.

  • Technical delivery on projects when required.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Degree and chartered in mechanical engineering or associated discipline

  • Experience of working on large scale projects

  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks on a regular basis

  • A passion for developing engineers and driving innovation in engineering delivery

  • Able to network within the wider Jacobs mechanical discipline to bring wider Jacobs expertise into PPP

  • Be a great collaborator and an active listener. Resilience and adaptability will be required to work in this dynamic environment
