Job Description: Archive Technician/Courier

Functional Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide retirement guidance to DOS clients, ensuring that the retirement manifests are completed correctly, the appropriate records series is identified, and calculating retention/disposition based on that series.

  • Enter data into the DS-693 retired records transmittal form along with the accompanying manifest which documents box contents.

  • Prepare boxes at the RSC for transfer to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), by completing NARA transfer request forms, updating the NARA transfer tracking spreadsheet, and verifying the contents of the boxes being retired to NARA.

  • Process search requests for DOS clients using the Retired Records Inventory Management System (RRIMS) database.

  • Pick up and deliver boxes between the Department of State (and any of its annexes) and the RSC.

  • Shelve boxes at the RSC, re-boxing if needed, reviewing contents of the boxes against the records manifest.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a current, active Top Secret security clearance and be able to maintain it. U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a clearance .

  • Bachelor's Degree is highly desired.

  • Ability to lift between 35 and 50 pounds.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects office equipment; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to lift 35-50 pounds, bend, reach, carry, stoop, kneel, climb, etc.
