Compute services are the foundation for Cloud Platform Services. With building blocks based on Security, Performance, and Flexibility, the Compute service builds scaling solutions for a global customers base across the breadth of the offering, including: Virtual Machines, Bare Metal Infrastructure, GPU Instances, Cloud Native Containers, and VMWare on Oracle Cloud.

The Sr. Director of Compute Operations will be accountable for the operational capabilities of the core Compute Services. They will lead a large, globally distributed team with a follow the sun model, owning 24x7 capabilities. Their work will enable companies and governments move more mission-critical workloads to cloud with confidence in the security of their information, the availability of the services, and the rapid response and resolution of incidents.

The Sr. Director of Compute Operations will be the key trusted operational partner to the global Compute organization, developing and executing the operational strategy, leading the operations organizations globally. They will be champions for operational efficiency and will accelerate operational productivity, continuously evolving capacity models, analyzing historic and real-time results, and become a trusted partner to the VP, Compute and Ops leader by making strategic and tactical recommendations based on those analyses - all in an environment of rapid growth and increasing complexity. This individual will need to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across the Compute organization, drive siloes into a unified operating model, be an empathetic change agent, manage programs that drive results at scale and champion the ability to simplify and improve cloud operations. As a member of the leadership team, this role will be working with global OCI leaders across multiple functions to develop, implement and manage operational processes, systems, reports and strategies to meet company-wide and organizational goals and initiatives.

They will be comfortable presenting to senior leadership and influencing global stakeholders across the organization. They will be proficient at looking around corners by identifying critical internal and external trends and will be detail orientated, with a passion for simplifying processes to deliver operational excellence at scale. They will be able to roll-up their sleeves working directly with models and data as well as ideating and driving strategic priorities for the OCI Compute organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a global team responsible for day-to-day cloud ops execution, including: 24/7 coverage, capacity management, aligned globally consistent process structures, develop teams of cloud operation and site reliability engineers, providing both technical and leadership expertise to ensure the highest levels of performance across on-soil, secure, and commercial regions

  • Own the build-out response for all new regions

  • Take a data and metrics-driven approach to consistent, iterative improvement for all cloud ops processes

  • Drive Operational learnings back into the Service Teams to enhance operational efficiencies

  • Implementing service best practices methodologies across the global Compute organization that include incident management, problem management, change management

Minimum Skills and Experience

  • BSc in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience

  • 10+ years of managing large globally diverse operational teams and developing talent

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to influence with data

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a history of presenting to senior leadership

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Data-driven leader with direct relevant experience leading and optimizing the delivery of cloud services at scale

  • Deep understanding of sustaining engineering, operations, customer support, integrations, with an eye toward leveraging and building tooling and automation

  • Experience in managing cloud operations support for large-scale cloud service provider

  • Experience leading cloud ops strategy and execution across multiple locations

  • Experience managing relationships with external vendors & contractors

US: Hiring Range: from $142,900 to $338,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

  8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
