Summary This position is located at Department of Housing and Urban Development Inspector General. As a Data Scientist, you will be supporting the work of the OIG within the Office of Information Technology. Tasks include planning and executing data and analytical studies of HUD Program areas, developing scripts, algorithms and models, and performing data management functions. Responsibilities The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14 . If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Lead or collaborate with appropriate staff in creating advanced analytic products, such as complex numerical and statistical analyses or AI algorithms. Support the division in identifying internal training needs regarding available data science methods, assets, tools, and analytics approaches, and provide authoritative advice to enhance efficiency and productivity of staff through the application of AI. Provide expert guidance and advice to the Director on the most fruitful avenues of analytic inquiry and AI development. Provide highly skilled and authoritative expertise on analytic methods to all levels of OIG. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience drawing conclusions based upon the rules, principles or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information in reference to operations; AND Facilitating the integration of technologies by analyzing data and providing recommendations in a research and development environment using statistical analysis or other math/data science-based approach. For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience drawing conclusions based upon the rules, principles or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information in reference to operations; AND Utilizing analytical tools, such as special studies, surveys or tests to support the organizations abilities and efforts on mission-oriented deliverables; AND Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis using cross sectional data; AND Collecting data through multiple mechanisms (e.g., surveys, data systems) for data analysis; AND Preparing and delivering technical/narrative reports for making program decisions; AND Reporting results or trends in graphs, charts, or dashboards. For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience using both supervised and unsupervised modeling to make business decisions and for forecasting/predicting outcomes. Education To be qualified for this position, you must meet the basic educational and/or work experience requirements for Data Scientist positions in the federal government. These requirements are: A) A degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B) A combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours/45 quarter hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
