S&P Global Director, Media and Policy Communications in Washington, District Of Columbia

Reporting directly to the Head of Enterprise Communications, this agile, experienced and highly motivated Media and Policy Communications Director will be responsible for elevating S&P Global s visibility in the press with a specific focus on those reporters writing for a policy audience. Her - his core responsibilities will focus on driving visibility and strategic engagement around existing and new communications initiatives, while activating media relationships to magnify the Company s research, products, data, spokespeople and initiatives amongst these key stakeholders. S - he will be part of a team that is fast-moving and highly-collaborative. The right candidate will have strong, relevant press relationships, be an exceptional writer, and have a firm understanding of the critical issues impacting the intersection of the financial markets and public policy.

The successful candidate for this role will have a track record of working effectively in a highly matrixed environment, as s - he will operate in close alignment with divisional and regional communications teams as needed, in addition to effectively collaborating across all Public Affairs functions and key stakeholders as appropriate to drive results. S - he will consistently demonstrate sound judgement under high-pressure situations and possess a keen understanding of communications best practices and emerging trends attuned to the policy landscape as well as the financial markets. S - he will be comfortable with managing direct reports as the team continues to grow over time. Experience in the public sector in Washington D.C. is strongly preferred.

The person in this role will:

  • Elevate external visibility and media engagement around S&P Global s strategic initiatives and core issues relevant to policy makers and influencers, as well as shareholders and customers.

  • Act as communications council on issues management communications strategy and support with tactical execution as needed.

    • Create and execute on strategic communication plans that seek to elevate Washington D.C. policy makers and influencers understanding of and engagement with the Company s thought leadership, data and analytics relevant to critical issues and themes, generating advantageous external visibility - media coverage.
  • Manage DC-based PR agencies as needed

  • Act as an advisor to internal stakeholders and partner groups on communications best practices and policies based on a well-informed view of current industry trends and standards.

  • Use data and analytics to measure and report on communication campaigns and results, using data-driven insights gained to inform on-going refinements to the strategy.

  • Lead special projects across the Enterprise as needed.

  • Possess a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant media relations and communications experience.
