Job Summary:

The Discovery Paralegal – Senior provides professional, accurate, timely, and reliable support to the OGC-LITB, FBI operational and administrative divisions, field offices, DOJ, other government agencies, and shall be responsible for the various tasks, outlined below. Quoters will work using a collaborative approach consistent with other DMS teams to perform legal document reviews and redactions on matters as assigned, following established FBI standards and practices, and using commercial electronic document review platforms and tools provided by the FBI. Quoter work product may be subject to one or more rounds of peer quality and supervisory review prior to production.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes and interprets requests from customers.

  • Researches, locates, and gathers material responsive to DMS requests including conducting outreach and informal interviews to respond to document requests and interrogatories.

  • Assists in preparation of declarations.

  • Scans paper materials to save as an image file (e.g., .PDF).

  • Conducts responsiveness reviews of both ESI and paper materials.

  • Conducts legal privilege reviews using Symantec Clearwell, Adobe Pro with Redax, or other document review platforms provided by the FBI.

  • Analyzes documents and proficiently applies deletion codes to diverse types of privileged information.

  • Reviews the work of peers for accuracy and provides constructive edits to ensure quality and thoroughness of review and processing.

  • Supports effective teams to foster teamwork, planning, and decision making.

  • Organizes and maintains accurate records of assigned requests. This includes keeping detailed case notes, utilizing discovery plans, using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, and enters case information into appropriate databases.

  • Prepares electronic and/or paper releases for release to customers.

  • Provides a high degree of professionalism and customer service in all interactions with DMS customers.

  • Prioritizes and schedules projects to accomplish objectives.

  • Represents the FBI in challenging situations.

  • Coordinates classification reviews with subject matter experts.

  • Maintains close collaboration of projects with discovery team members.

  • Serves as consultant to government employees regarding privilege application and document production.

  • Communicates with employees at all levels of the FBI to complete projects with a high degree of professionalism.

  • Provides weekly statuses to management and periodic updates to Assistant General Counsels and other DMS customers.

  • Conducts searches of FBI systems and databases to retrieve responsive documents or files (i.e., Sentinel, Internal Policy Office Policy Library and Policy Archives).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of Paralegal experience

  • 3-5 years of Discovery/ e-discovery

  • 2+ years of leading litigation projects

  • Required PLS certificate/ AA

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SSBI.

  • One or more years of progressively more responsible experience performing privilege and other substantive reviews on litigation support projects. Comparable combination of education and experience may be acceptable.

  • One to two years of progressively more responsible experience reviewing electronic and paper materials for privilege on litigation support projects involving paper documents and electronic files.

  • Using an eDiscovery review platform (e.g., Clearwell, Relativity) to accurately identify and redact privileged information.

  • Researching and drafting responses to interrogatories.

  • Obtain documents for document collection and production.

  • Productively communicating and driving litigation projects forward with clients and/or attorneys.

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and coordination.

  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills in MS Office Suite Products, document review and file management systems, and imaging.

  • Shall have excellent Microsoft Office skills (specifically, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

  • Preferred PLS certificate/AA
