Mail Clerk – Copy and Mail Services – Georgetown University
Job Overview
The Main Clerk has duties that include but are not limited to:
Greets customers in a courteous and cordial manner to ensure a positive welcoming experience
Performs timely and accurate processing of student and departmental mail
Operates Mail Services vehicles, including large box truck to pick up mail from the United States Postal Service (USPS) when necessary, as well as Accountable Mail requiring signature, according time schedules and rules of safety
Receives, scans, sorts and delivers incoming mail and packages from the USPS and all external carriers, and maintains the chain of custody
Utilizes in depth knowledge of package tracking software and locker systems with integrated technology to facilitate sorting and delivery of mail and packages
Delivers all mail and packages to university departments and student locker banks in accordance with instructions regarding assigned routes.
Maintains cleanliness of all Mail Services vehicles
Performs other mail and package related duties as may be required to accomplish the department's mission
Work Interactions
Reporting directly to the Mailroom Supervisor, the Mail Clerk works professionally with other employees in the university, and has daily interactions with Georgetown University faculty, staff, and students and outside contractors.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency
At least 1 year of experience in a medium to large mailroom – preference for a university environment
An in-depth knowledge of USPS procedures, third-party carrier procedures, and hazardous mail protocol
Proficiency with computers, including word processing programs, spreadsheets, and email
Proficiency with entering, transcribing, and maintaining information in written and/or electronic form.
Demonstrable accuracy and attention to detail in verbal, written, and electronic communication
Proficiency with mobile phones and/or other mobile barcode scanning technology
A valid driver’s license
Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation medical card to operate vehicles over 10,000 pounds, even if the medical card is not required for the position’s specific responsibilities on the date of hire
Willingness and availability to work over time when needed
Physical Environment Duties require exertion involving lifting, carrying, prolonged standing, walking, pushing, bending, and reaching; and may involve the handling of heavy containers and parcels weighing up to 70 pounds. Therefore, the physical ability to efficiently perform the position’s duties with or without reasonable accommodation is required.
