Job Description

Global Wealth & Asset Management (GWAM) is a key growth segment for Manulife, operating through three different channels (Retail, Retirement and Institutional) across North America, Asia and Europe. The business operates externally under the Manulife Investment Management (MIM) brand. As of December 31, 2023, GWAM had a total of $1,054B in Assets Under Management and Administration.

Reporting to the Head of Strategy, the AVP Competitive Intelligence & Insights is an important catalyst and contributor to the overall strategy, growth, and transformation of the Manulife Investment Management franchise. In this highly visible role, the candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to the entire Global WAM Leadership Team and a senior member of the GWAM Strategy team, providing key insights and information to support the development and execution of our strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the generation of market and competitive insights to inform GWAM’s long-range strategic planning and tactical decision making

  • Develop, maintain and drive adoption of a competitive intelligence portal allowing for users to self-serve (e.g. market share analysis, financial results analysis, market research, etc.)

  • Evaluate and objectively assess GWAM’s financial and business performance against relevant peers (both at the overall and at the individual business level)

  • Lead quarterly competitive reviews for the GWAM and business leadership teams, identifying key market trends, notable competitor activities, implications for our business and more importantly bring actionable insights to inform decisions

  • Perform ad-hoc research on key topics that impact our business

  • Foster collaboration between different teams within the organization to leverage best practices and existing work

  • Lead and develop a global team of professionals

What we are looking for

  • Professional designation with 10+ years of relevant, progressively senior experience, in financial services

  • Exceptional business and financial acumen with aptitude for strategic, critical and analytical thinking

  • Entrepreneurial and inquisitive approach to problem solving and insights generation

  • Aptitude to leverage emerging technology to drive creative and innovative solutions

  • Proven outcome-orientation with an ability to multi-task, prioritize across multiple initiatives and drive commitment and ownership

  • Outstanding communication skills with demonstrated ability to articulate complex business problems in simple and impactful words

  • Ability to develop a clear position / point of view on key questions and issues impacting the business

  • Demonstrated ability to grow and develop talent

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD
