In this role, you will join a world class team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers responsible for further development and enhancement of the globally launched Robotic Assisted Surgery platform within the Surgical Operating (https://www.medtronic.com/covidien/en-us/robotic-assisted-surgery/hugo-ras-system.html) unit.

A Day in the Life

• Drive adoption of model-based design for developing innovative surgical robotic solutions.

• Develop computational models of robotic assemblies.

• Assess model credibility, drive model improvement and validation.

• Analyze performance, reliability and safety of the robotic assisted surgery system.

• Build simulation frameworks integrating multiple models.

• Enhance and maintain a suite of simulation and data analysis tools.

• Collaborate with internal customers to determine customer needs and define model use cases, and present findings and capabilities to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

• Contribute to design decisions, requirements breakdown, testing and manufacturing strategy.

Must Haves

• Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or related subject with 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree in the same field with 2 years of relevant experience.

• Experience with robotics or electro-mechanical systems

• Proficient in Matlab/Simulink, Python and/or other software for simulation and data analysis

• Ability to collaborate in projects with multi-site teams and across engineering disciplines

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Full working proficiency in English

Nice to Haves

• Proficient in multibody dynamics and kinematics

• Competent in parameter estimation and hardware characterization

• Knowledge in control theory and closed loop systems

• Knowledge in finite element methods for structural analysis of assemblies

• Experience with design of experiment and test fixtures

• Knowledge in server/cloud based simulation frameworks and processing of data
