Aston Carter Cost Accountant in Westford, Massachusetts

Senior Cost AccountantLocation: Westford, MAJob Type: Full TimeResponsibilities:

  • Forge strong business partnerships and provide cost analysis and decision support to functional leaders at the Westford manufacturing facility.

  • Improve the accuracy of standard costs and enhance systems and processes for the business.

  • Provide value-added cost analysis, insights, and recommendations to drive cost reductions and process improvements.

Key Duties:

  • Perform daily and month-end closing activities, including preparation of journal entries, management reports, and account reconciliations.

  • Conduct review and analysis related to production order activity, spending variances, inventory valuation accuracy, and the need for plant-required accruals and reserves.

  • Monitor budget and actual spend throughout the year, collaborating with cost center owners on variances to budget and forecasts.

  • Develop standard rates for cost centers and work with engineering on maintenance of plant BOMs and routers.

  • Collaborate with the planning team to develop monthly manufacturing cost and absorption forecasts based on forecasted demand.

  • Assist the operations team in developing business plans to justify large capital projects.

  • Support the annual physical inventory process.

  • Maintain compliance with US GAAP and all company accounting policies.

  • Document procedures for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance initiatives.

  • Assist with requirements from internal and external auditors during the annual audit.

  • Monitor yield performance and collaborate with commercial and corporate accounting to ensure revenue recognition aligns with customer contract conditions.

  • Participate in special projects as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

  • Minimum of five years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in manufacturing or plant accounting.

  • Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and ability to accurately apply them.

  • Experience with Visual Manufacturing ERP system and Microsoft Power BI is a plus.

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
