JOB REQUIREMENTS: JOB ID: 20920 ATTENTION: The Academic Advising & Exploration Center and Intercollegiate Athletics department at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seek an Academic Advisor (50%) / Assistant Coach - Track & Field (50%) (AE002, CC003). JOB DETAILS: ACADEMIC ADVISOR (50%) The Academic Advisor works with new and undeclared students to provide holistic advising services helping students matriculate to the university and providing support during their first year on campus resulting in retention of students. This position serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options and refers students to appropriate institutional resources. Advisors work to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. They also serve as a liaison to specific colleges and departments to ensure accurate information is provided to both the department and students. The advisor will be asked to represent the department at university events, and to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment. ASSISTANT TRACK & FIELD COACH (50%) The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach of Track and Field in the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, communication and administering of his/her program to achieve University and Department objectives. Goals and objectives are to be developed prior to the beginning of each season with the Head Coach. Exhibit behavior that enhances the respect for the student-athletes, the athletics program, the University, and yourself in the conduct of your professional responsibilities. You are required to assist in the direction and control of your program in accordance with NCAA, WIAC, and University rules and regulations. Violation of University, NCAA or Conference rules on the part of Athletic Department personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. RESPONSIBILITIES Academic Advising Assist students with program planning, general course selection, registration, and schedule review. Engage students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements. Refer students to appropriate campus resources which could support their success and engagement with the campus community. Department Representation Participate in SOAR days, Warhawk Preview/Admitted Days, and other campus events by presenting about the services available in the AAEC. Coordinate with assigned college/departments to ensure AAEC staff are updated on curricular changes or opportunities. Miscellaneous Serve on department, division, or university committees. Actively participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills. General Administration of Program/Coaching Demonstrated and successful recruiting and development of collegiate athletes in horizontal jumps or throwing events. Adhere to all rules and guidelines of the NCAA, WIAC and University. Assist head coach to plan and direct the development of student-athletes in relation to general and specific skills necessary for successful competition. Recruiting Assist with recruitment and recommendation of high-level student-athletes to the University in accordance with the recruiting goals established by the head coach. Complete recruiting logs on a monthly basis. Interact with admissions personnel in the recruitment policies and procedures for the University.
