Keep the motorists safe and secure by assisting stranded motorists, reporting hazardous drivers, and using safety devices to protect crash scenes.

Position Summary:Assist motorists with vehicle and travel problems in order to provide for their safety and security and the safety and security of other motorists by fixing tires; providing basic temporary mechanical assistance; providing directions; removing disabled vehicles from traveled portions of the highway using push bumper; providing gasoline sufficient to travel to nearest service station; providing water/antifreeze; calling for wrecker service; provide transportation of motorists to nearest service station/motels/other shelter. This is done through knowledge of mechanical structure of vehicles; knowledge of area and services available; knowledge of repair procedures; knowledge of telephone/radio operations and numbers; and knowledge of Highway Patrol policies and procedures.\ Assist motorist at traffic crashes in order to provide for the safety and security of involved motorists and those using the highway by protecting the crash scene with safety devices such as cones and fuses; by calling for law enforcement officers; service vehicles or emergency vehicles; by providing emergency first aide/CPR to victims of crashes until medical personnel arrive; by moving involved vehicles to shoulder of roadway upon recommendation of law enforcement officer; by transporting involved motorists to nearest service station, motels or other facility upon recommendation of law enforcement officer. This is done through knowledge of Highway patrol policies and procedures; knowledge of first aide and CPR; knowledge of local area and services available; knowledge of telephone and radio procedures and numbers; knowledge of when to move or not move crash victims; knowledge of safety procedures; and knowledge of priorities at a crash scene.

Observe suspected criminal activity or hazardous drivers in order to provide for highway safety by reporting incidents to the communications operation and remaining at a safe distance until law enforcement officers arrive. This is done through knowledge of Highway Patrol policies and procedures; knowledge of radio procedures; knowledge of criminal activity; and ability to properly describe and locate vehicles geographically.

Check all unattended vehicles in order to inform dispatchers and law enforcement officers so that vehicles may be properly tagged and/or removed. This is done through knowledge of properly approaching vehicles; through knowledge of radio procedures; and ability to describe and locate vehicles geographically.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.\ Licensing & Certification: Valid Kansas Drivers License.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience with motor vehicle construction, maintenance and minor repair highly desired..
