Job Summary

The OPEX Engineer will be responsible for working with the distribution OPEX and operations teams to drive process improvements in all three Winchester DC’s. He/she will collect, and analyze data looking for areas of inefficiencies, create action plans to address, communicate to leadership and work with cross functional teams to address. The successful candidate will also be required to put monitoring systems in place for effectiveness of solutions and course correct as needed. In addition, he/she will work with the site teams and other cross functional partners, to establish processes and procedures to deliver efficiency and effectiveness by optimizing the use of people, process, and technology to achieve service excellence and minimize cost.

Job Duties

  • Identify and lead projects that drive out losses or inefficiencies in the distribution center

  • Support daily activities of the DC with process documentation and building long term capabilities into each Winchester DC

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across all Winchester DC’s

  • Develop and maintain distribution optimal process flows in all Winchester DC’s

  • Act as a change agent to professionally challenge current and/or traditional ways of thinking and lead new ways/approaches to create new efficient ways of working

  • Facilitate collaboration between various cross functional groups associated with distribution operations

  • Work with automation team to institute process improvement initiatives

  • Map current and future processes

  • Collect and analyze data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and safety hazards

  • Perform time studies to validate and/or modify employee and/or process performance

  • Develop and communicate solutions to problems to leaders and peers

  • Collaborate on the startup of new initiatives, equipment and projects to drive the best solutions and understanding

  • Lead and support projects to improve short-term performance and build long-term, leading-edge capabilities

  • Develop advanced competency in a wide range of engineering methods and Lean tools, and coach employees in the use and implementation of CI and Lean principles

  • Makes inventory and/or storage recommendations

  • Manage special projects as identified and assigned

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering preferred or related Engineering or Logistics degree

  • 1-3 years’ experience in a distribution center or manufacturing setting with continuous improvement and process flow experience

  • Ability to build trust and interact with all levels of the organization, including senior management

  • Strong project management skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Working knowledge of common distribution systems and processes

  • Strong PC skills including Windows, Word, Excel and SPC applications

  • Focus on adding value to a fast and performance driven business

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment with loud noise and wear proper PPE

  • Able to lift, push, carry and pull up to 50 lbs

  • Walking up to 50% of the time on a warehouse/manufacturing floor

  • Ability to meet physical requirements including a variety of standing, sitting and walking
