As the I ndustry Leader , Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the development and manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The site, and it’s Statistics team, has been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System and continues to work on a strong pipeline of products in development. We currently have opportunities for a Statistician to join our team! This could be based from our Medical Devices Centre of Excellence in Witney, Oxfordshire, or from our Maidenhead office.

We are therefore keen to hear from candidates qualified to Degree level in Mathematics, Statistics or similar, who are looking for an opportunity to make an impact at work and contribute to patient health for the next generation of glucose-monitoring technology.

Unlike traditional pharma or CRO work, with Abbott Diabetes Care, you would be involved in end-to-end clinical trials for a small number of global projects that typically last from 4 to 18 months. From supporting protocol development through to preparing publications , you will see the impact of your work as we continue to support the growth of our FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose testing system in new markets, or for new patient populations. In addition, you will be providing key statistical support alongside scientists and engineers to the development of our pipeline products .

In this role, you would be joining a vibrant, friendly and diverse group, and can expect to work across a varied range of projects and statistical techniques. Further professional and/or academic accreditations/certifications can also be supported.

You will need to have good oral and written communication skills to be able to collaborate with different people within the department, prepare reports, interpret results, and provide effective summaries for specialist and non-specialist audiences. You must be organised and flexible in your approach to work, with good attention to detail in order to ensure that data and analyses are accurate. I ndustry based experience is required, and programming skills in SAS would be advantageous.

To support clinical study activities and the development of products and testing procedures through the application of statistical methods to ADC products and processes.

Main responsibilities:

Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of statistical concepts into practice.

Provide statistical support in the development of new products through to launch under direction of senior colleagues.

Support the statistical development, evaluation and verification of stability, calibration and product release methods by use of appropriate statistical methodologies.

Analyze results from clinical studies aimed at demonstrating product efficacy and safety.

Maintain appropriate records of activities and tasks carried out in compliance with the appropriate Quality System requirements of ADC UK e.g. GXP.

Provide technical support to clinical studies, product development and/or Operations activities to ensure continued smooth running and interaction between departments.

Must take responsibility for their individual tasks and understand the impact of their actions on the overall business and other functions.

Derive conclusions and review progress with supervisor.

Contribute to the definition and timely achievement of overall support project goals.

Receives general direction and exercises considerable discretion as to work details.

Responsible for own documentation and records and for accuracy, quality, and timeliness of work.

Ensure that all work complies with the ADC Quality System, particularly Statistical and Design Control procedures (i.e.

ISO 900 and GXP) and EHS guidelines.

To perform other specific technical tasks as required when directed.
