FINANCIAL AID SPECIALIST

This is a year-round position with full-time administrative appointment in the Financial Aid Department. This position will report to the Director of Financial Aid.

 

Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for providing information and assistance to potential students regarding the financial aid application process and potential funding options.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are performed in an office setting.  Working effectively and collaboratively in a team environment is a must.

This is a non-exempt, full-time regular position.  Normal hours are Monday -- Thursday, 7:30 -- 5:30 with a 30-minute paid lunch.  Overtime may be required.

 

*WAGE RANGE:  *$21.00 - $22.00 per hour

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *

  • Associate's Degree or Certificate of Completion from an Accredited Career School.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Will on occasion be required to drive on behalf of Perry Technical Institute. Employee must possess a working vehicle, hold a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record, and produce proof of insurance.
  • Must be willing to consent to a drug test.

     

        PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual (fluent in English & Spanish language).

  • Working knowledge of federal financial aid programs.
  • Experience with financial aid management systems, preferably PowerFAIDS.
  • Experience working in an academic setting.

     

*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:                       *

Have good attendance; communicate effectively and interface with students and staff in a professional, approachable manner.

Provide, interpret and explain federal and state forms to potential student aid recipients including but not limited to Financial Aid packets, State Grant applications and additional Financial Aid forms.

Greet visitors and assist students with the electronic FAFSA/WASFA application/Master Promissory Notes/counseling sessions.

Process financial aid applications and determine student eligibility for federal and state funds.

Perform Financial Planning Sessions with students, providing counsel on financing options including federal, state, and alternative funding opportunities.

To-Do List student outreach for assigned letter range (calls, emails, texts, post cards).

Manage awarding/disbursing of funds as assigned including but not limited to Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant.

Oversee the federal work study program and monitor monthly department allocations.

Monitor/respond to financial aid inbox and CADENCE texting platform.
